Position Overview & Basic Function:
Foster Angels of South Texas (FAST) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children in foster care. For more than 25 years, Foster Angels has been meeting the immediate and long-term needs of children, youth, and families connected to foster care across 19 counties in South Texas. Whether providing emergency assistance, educational support, life skills, post adoption services, or helping create moments of normalcy, our mission is simple: say “yes” when children need us most. FAST is searching for an experienced fundraiser and relationship builder to help us write the next chapter. This is more than a fundraising position. It’s an opportunity to share our mission with the community and give them the chance to help transform the lives of children throughout South Texas. Success in this role requires an active presence in the community through donor meetings, relationship-building, sponsorship development, and collaboration with community partners.
About the Role:
The Director of Philanthropy is responsible for leading Foster Angels’ fundraising and donor engagement efforts throughout South Texas. Working closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and program staff, this individual will cultivate meaningful relationships with donors, corporations, foundations, and community partners while helping diversify and grow the organization’s philanthropic support.
This position requires someone who enjoys building relationships, connecting with people, and representing Foster Angels throughout the Coastal Bend, Rio Grande Valley, and Laredo.
Primary Responsibilities:
Donor Development and Stewardship
- Cultivate and steward relationships with current and prospective donors, corporations, foundations, and community partners.
- Proactively identify new donor and sponsorship opportunities throughout South Texas.
- Develop strategies to grow annual giving, recurring gifts, major gifts and unrestricted support.
- Work closely with the Executive Director on donor cultivation, solicitations, and stewardship.
Fundraising Strategy and Campaigns
- Develop and manage an annual fundraising plan with clear goals, timelines, and prospect lists.
- Lead fundraising strategy for the Champions of Courage Luncheon including identifying and securing a presenting sponsor.
- Partner with regional staff to support sponsorships, logistics, tracking, and stewardship for the Rio Grande Valley Luncheon and other events.
- Coordinate fundraising efforts for: Coastal Bend Day of Giving, Back-to-School Shoe Drive, Holiday Gift Drive for Teens, Heart Gallery initiatives, and third-party and community fundraising campaigns.
Regional Fundraising
- Work collaboratively with regional staff to expand philanthropic support throughout the Coastal Bend, Rio Grande Valley, Laredo and surrounding counties.
- Build upon existing relationships in the Rio Grande Valley without duplicating the work of regional staff.
- Help develop new donor and corporate relationships in Laredo and other areas where Foster Angels has fewer established connections.
Grants and Foundation Support
- Research grant opportunities aligned with Foster Angels’ programs and priorities.
- Maintain a grant calendar with deadlines, reporting requirements, and award information.
- Prepare grant proposals, letters of inquiry, supporting documents, and reports.
- Coordinate with program and finance staff to gather accurate data, budgets, outcomes, and stories.
- Maintain strong relationships with current and prospective foundation partners.
Qualifications:
- A commitment to Foster Angel’s mission to help children in foster care.
- Three or more years of experience in fundraising, nonprofit development, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, sales or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience will be considered.
- Demonstrated success building and maintaining professional relationships.
- Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize responsibilities and manage time effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable initiating meetings, making direct asks, and following up.
- Ability to work independently while remaining collaborative and accountable.
- An outgoing, people-oriented personality.
- Microsoft Office & Google Suite proficiency.
Preferred Knowledge & Skills:
- Experience working in nonprofit, child welfare, education, or another mission-driven organization.
- Experience securing corporate sponsorships, individual gifts, or foundation support.
- Grant writing and reporting experience.
- Familiarity with Bloomerang, Qgiv, or Canva.
- Knowledge of the South Texas business and philanthropic community.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.

- Background check; must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license.
- Commitment to work-life balance with collaborative, knowledge sharing and supportive team dynamic
- This position may work remotely for a significant portion of the week, but regular in-person donor meetings, community events, staff collaboration, and occasional regional travel are required. Limited evening availability expected for a few events per year.
