The Payroll Tax Analyst is responsible for supporting the organization’s payroll tax compliance by assisting in the preparation, review, filing, and remittance of all federal, state, and local payroll tax obligations. This role works closely with the Tax Director, payroll, and accounting teams to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to all applicable regulations.
In addition to payroll tax responsibilities, the Payroll Tax Analyst will perform account reconciliations, support month-end and year-end close processes, and assist with audits and tax-related reporting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and possesses a strong understanding of payroll tax regulations and general accounting principles. This position plays a critical role in maintaining compliance, minimizing risk, and supporting the overall financial integrity of the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation, review, and filing of federal, state, and local payroll tax returns.
- Ensure timely and accurate remittance of payroll tax payments.
- Maintain compliance with all payroll tax regulations and reporting requirements.
- Research and resolve payroll tax discrepancies, notices, and inquiries from tax authorities.
- Reconcile payroll tax accounts and related general ledger accounts on a regular basis.
- Support the month-end and year-end close processes related to payroll and tax accounts.
- Prepare and maintain documentation for audits and assist external auditors as needed.
- Collaborate with payroll, HR, and accounting teams to ensure accurate employee tax data and reporting.
- Monitor changes in payroll tax laws and regulations and assist in implementing necessary updates.
- Maintain accurate records of payroll tax filings, payments, and correspondence.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong understanding of payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements.
- Knowledge of general accounting principles, including familiarity with GAAP.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Experience with payroll systems and accounting software is preferred.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in payroll tax, accounting, or a related role.
- PEO (Professional Employer Organization) experience is preferred.

- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds
Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
