Employment Specialists carry out the services of the IPS Supported Employment program to fidelity by assisting clients to obtain and maintain employment that is consistent with their vocational goals. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each of the essential responsibilities listed below. This list is not exhaustive and may be subject to change based on organizational needs and priorities.
Essential Functions
- Engages clients and establishes trusting, collaborative relationships.
- Conducts functional needs assessments related to employment.
- Develops and implements a person-centered plan based on assessment.
- Provides support and interventions per person-centered plan.
- Assists with application processes including job development and job search activities.
- Assists in connecting with prospective employers.
- Provides individualized follow-along support to assist clients in maintaining employment.
- Provides supported education, using principles like supported employment, for clients interested in education to advance their employment goals.
- Provides coaching around skills including financial counseling.
- Attends training, staffing and supervision meetings, as necessary.
- Maintains and ensures HIPAA, ethical standards and professional boundaries with all staff and clients.
- Transport clients to approved appointments.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge or understanding of local, State, and Federal laws as well as “strengths based” case management.
- Excellent communication skills, particularly listening, mediation, and writing skills.
- Possess strong organizational skills with the ability to meet a demanding workload.
- Details oriented to complete requirements of files and contract compliance.
- Concentrated record keeping, budgeting, and mathematical skills; ability to produce required reports to local, State and Federal government agencies and funding sources.
- Experience with computers and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Sensitivity to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the population served.
- A commitment to empowering others to solve their own problems.
- A conviction about the capacity of people to grow and change.
- The ability to establish and set appropriate limits with persons served to help them gain skills and confidence.
- The ability to work collaboratively with other personnel and/or service providers or professionals.

- Ability to sit, stand, kneel, and walk for extended periods, with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle, and vehicle insurance.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or higher in psychology, counseling, social work or related field from an accredited college or university, preferred.
- Two years’ experience in the coordination of supportive employment and housing or in the coordination of independent living services in a social service setting under qualified supervision, preferred.
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Pay range for this position: $22-$27 per hour depending on experience.
