Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and supervise construction activities on large earthwork and grading projects
- Ensure all work meets quality standards, specifications, and contract requirements
- Interpret plans, specifications, and layouts; review scope with Superintendent regularly
- Identify field issues, inefficiencies, and cost-saving opportunities; implement corrective actions
- Monitor and enforce job site safety; proactively address hazards
- Track and report daily production, progress, and adherence to the 3-week look-ahead schedule
- Complete and manage crew timecards, cost coding, and required documentation
- Train, mentor, and develop crew members
- Monitor productivity and provide feedback to improve performance
- Ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment
- Maintain clear communication with team members, supervisors, and other stakeholders
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in civil construction or related field
- Proven experience managing mass earthwork and grading operations
- Strong ability to read and interpret plans and blueprints
- Grade checking experience required
- Demonstrated leadership and crew management skills
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Knowledge of construction practices, scheduling, and cost tracking
- Safety-focused mindset with strong attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating heavy equipment (grader, loader, compactor, dozer, excavator)
- OSHA 30 Certification, CPR, and MOT certifications
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing for extended periods
- Frequent bending, stooping, crouching, and walking on uneven terrain
- Ability to lift and carry materials as required
- Maintain awareness of surroundings, including moving equipment and active jobsite conditions
- Ability to safely climb on and off heavy equipment
Work Environment
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including nights as needed
- Exposure to construction-related noise, dust, and materials
- Regular work around heavy equipment and machinery
- Interaction with common construction substances such as fuel, oils, and concrete
