Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Assistant Basketball Coach to help lead our team and inspire young athletes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in basketball and experience working with students in a coaching or educational capacity. This role involves developing players' skills, fostering teamwork, and promoting a positive sportsmanship culture.
Duties
- Plan and conduct basketball training sessions that focus on skill development, teamwork, and game strategies.
- Evaluate players' performance and provide constructive feedback to enhance their skills.
- Organize and oversee practice sessions, ensuring a safe and productive environment.
- Develop game strategies and prepare the team for competitions.
- Foster a positive team atmosphere that encourages participation, respect, and sportsmanship among players.
- Communicate effectively with players, parents, and school staff regarding team progress and individual development.
- Maintain equipment and ensure that all facilities are safe for use.
- Assist Head Coach in scheduling non league games and scrimmages
- Assist Head Coach in all other coaching needs and capacities.
- Report lineups, scores and stats to newspaper and media
- Record stats and tracking during varsity games
- Interact in a positive manner with student athletes, staff and parents
- Interact with athletic director and administrators and attend any necessary meetings/functions as needed.
- Ability to obtain all required certifications in a timely manner and pass necessary background checks
Skills
- Strong knowledge of basketball techniques, strategies, and rules.
- Experience working with students in an educational or coaching setting is highly desirable.
- Ability to educate young athletes on the fundamentals of the game while promoting personal growth.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively convey instructions and motivate players.
- Strong leadership abilities to guide the team both on and off the court.
- A commitment to fostering an inclusive environment that encourages all participants to thrive.
- Ability to motivate student athletes on and off the court
