Position Summary
FitEats is seeking a dependable, organized, and team-oriented Kitchen Lead to oversee the daily operations of the SOAR Charter School kitchen. The Kitchen Lead is responsible for ensuring meals are prepared and served safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all health and nutrition standards. This position plays a key role in creating a positive dining experience for students while maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming kitchen environment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, snacks and supper according to school menus and nutrition guidelines.
- Lead daily kitchen operations and provide direction to kitchen staff as needed.
- Maintain high standards of food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness in accordance with local and state health regulations.
- Monitor food quality, portion control, and presentation.
- Receive, inspect, and properly store food deliveries.
- Manage inventory and assist with ordering food and kitchen supplies.
- Maintain accurate production records, temperature logs, and sanitation documentation.
- Ensure kitchen equipment is properly used, cleaned, and maintained.
- Collaborate with school administration regarding menus, special dietary needs, and meal service.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment.
- Assist with special school events involving food service as needed.
- Perform other duties related to kitchen operations as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in food service, commercial kitchens, or school nutrition programs preferred.
- Supervisory or leadership experience is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and HACCP principles.
- Ability to work independently and lead a team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
- Food Handler's Card required (or ability to obtain upon hire).
- ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
- Ability to speak and understand Spanish preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting.
- Ability to safely operate commercial kitchen equipment.
- Ability to work in hot and cold kitchen environments.
Work Schedule
- Monday through Friday
- Approximately 40 hours per week
- School calendar with occasional staff development or special event days
