Job Title: Survey Rod Operator
GeoPoint is a land surveying company with multiple locations, specializing in land development, geomatics, geospatial mapping, commercial surveys, and subsurface utility engineering.
Summary/Objective:
The Survey Rod Operator will support field survey crews in collecting and recording accurate survey data. This entry-level position involves various physical tasks, including handling survey equipment, assisting with data collection, and performing routine vehicle maintenance checks.
Essential Job Functions:
- Fill the survey vehicle with gas and check fluid levels, such as water and oil.
- Inspect tire pressure and look for mechanical problems, including broken headlights and taillights.
- Carry survey equipment, including rods, total stations, and GPS units, to various points on the job site, often through challenging terrain such as woods, brush, mud, and water.
- Assist the instrument operator and crew chief in setting up and operating survey instruments.
- Hold the survey rod at designated points to measure elevations and distances accurately.
- Clear brush and foliage using hand tools to provide clear lines of sight for survey instruments.
- Place and secure markers, stakes, and other survey monuments at specified locations.
- Follow all safety guidelines and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for the survey crew.
- Record and maintain detailed field notes and sketches as directed by the crew chief or instrument operator.
- Work closely with other crew members to ensure efficient and accurate data collection and project completion.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in surveying, construction, or a related field is a plus but not required.
- Basic understanding of surveying principles and equipment is preferred.
- Physical ability to carry heavy equipment and work in various outdoor conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Willingness to travel to different job sites as needed.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms, speak, and hear.
- The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and smell.
- Able to get in and out of vehicle multiple times a day.
- Drive 30 to 200 miles daily.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- It is required to work outside in all types of weather conditions, possibly for extended periods of time.
- The terrain may be rough, steep, wet, or swampy. Vegetation may be dense, and insects, snakes, or animals may be encountered.
- Desk/Workstation may be located in a confined area.
- Moderate noise indoors/outdoors (i.e., computers, phones, printers, and traffic).
- Able to work well in a team environment as well as being self-motivated and driven.

Schedule:
- Must be able to start the workday promptly @ 6:30 AM and be available until 6:00 PM if required.
- Overtime is mandatory.
Availability:
- Able to work 40–65 hours per week, including evenings and weekends if required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $19.00 per hour
