Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled 1099 Contractor Fiber Technician in the Warsaw VA area to install, maintain, and repair fiber optic cabling and telecommunications systems. The ideal candidate is experienced with splicing, termination, testing, and troubleshooting fiber networks, comfortable working on Ethernet/telephone/computer networking projects, and follows industry quality and safety standards. This is a contractor role — you must provide your own truck and tools.
Duties
- Install, splice, terminate, and test single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cables
- Troubleshoot and repair fiber optic systems and related telecom equipment
- Use ohmmeters, voltmeters, fusion splicers, OTDRs, power meters, and hand tools for installations and diagnostics
- Perform cabling work for Ethernet, telephone, and computer/network systems
- Maintain accurate job documentation and test reports
- Adhere to industry best practices, safety protocols, and quality standards
- Coordinate with customers, project managers, and team members as needed
Requirements
- Previous experience as a Fiber Technician or equivalent experience (electrical/service technician backgrounds considered)
- Proficiency with fiber optic tools and test equipment (OTDR, power meter, fusion splicer) and common hand tools
- Strong knowledge of fiber cabling, terminations, splicing techniques, and telecom technologies
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Must have own truck, tools, and valid driver’s license
Optional (preferred)
- Certifications such as FOA, ETA, or manufacturer-specific fiber training
- Experience with aerial and underground fiber installations
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $40,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
