Assistant Men's Basketball Coach
Part-Time | 12-Month Appointment | $3,500 Stipend
Baruch College Men's Basketball is seeking an energetic, organized, and growth-oriented Assistant Coach to support all aspects of an NCAA Division III program competing in the CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC).
The successful candidate will play an active role in recruiting, player development, scouting, practice planning, game preparation, and student-athlete mentorship while helping build a championship-caliber culture.
Core Responsibilities:
Recruiting
● Identify and evaluate prospective student-athletes.
● Build relationships with high school, prep school, and AAU coaches.
● Assist with recruiting communications, campus visits, and recruiting database management.
● Attend select recruiting events during the summer and academic year as delegated by the Head Coach.
Coaching & Player Development
● Assist with planning and conducting practices.
● Lead and assist with individual skill development sessions.
● Provide instruction and feedback during team practice segments.
● Support the academic, athletic, and personal development of student-athletes.
Scouting & Film
● Prepare scouting reports on four assigned opponents annually (typically two conference and two non-conference opponents).
● Assist with film breakdown, game preparation, and player evaluation.
● Utilize video and analytics to support team performance.
Program Operations
● Assist with game-day operations (team warmups, equipment ,etc), team travel, and select administrative tasks.
● Supervise student managers as assigned.
Time Commitment
Applicants should carefully consider the time commitment before applying.
Expected availability includes:
● Monday-Thursday: 3:30 PM - 6:30 PM practice times
● Friday: 1:30 PM - 4:30 PM practice times
● Saturday & Sunday: 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM practice times
● Home and away games throughout the season
● Select recruiting events during the summer and academic year
Attendance at the majority of practices, games, and team functions is expected.
Requirements
● Bachelor's degree.
● Strong basketball knowledge and coaching experience.
● Excellent communication and organizational skills.
● Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
● Commitment to the NCAA Division III student-athlete experience and the mission of Baruch Athletics.
● Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record free from infractions.
● Willingness and ability to drive Baruch College vans to most away games.
● CPR, First Aid, AED Certified
Preferred Qualifications
● Collegiate playing and/or coaching experience.
● Experience conducting individual skill development workouts.
● Familiarity with modern offensive and defensive basketball concepts.
● Experience evaluating and recruiting prospective student-athletes.
● Familiarity with Synergy, FastDraw, FastScout, FastRecruit, Hudl, or similar software.
● Experience with film breakdown, scouting reports, and analytics.
