Lead Developer – Data/BI & GenAILocation: West Sacramento, CAContract: 12 Months (May possible extension)Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Lead Developer – Data/BI & GenAI to lead the design, development, and delivery of enterprise-level Business Intelligence, data warehouse, GenBI and AI/ML solutions. The role will provide technical leadership to analysts and developers while working closely with business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable data and analytics solutions.The ideal candidate will have strong experience across data engineering, BI, AI/ML, GenAI, cloud data platforms, semantic modeling and LLM-based analytics, with proven experience delivering production-grade data products.Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of analysts and developers in implementing enterprise BI and large-scale data warehouse solutions.
- Design and deliver production-grade dashboards, data models, APIs and analytics products.
- Develop and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines and cloud data warehouse solutions.
- Work with platforms such as Snowflake and Amazon Redshift and orchestration tools including Airflow and dbt.
- Design advanced SQL queries, data models, semantic layers and dimensional models.
- Develop and enhance natural-language-to-SQL/query capabilities using OpenAI APIs or similar LLM platforms.
- Develop prompt strategies and perform prompt engineering for business insights and analytics.
- Work with BI platforms such as Power BI, Tableau or Looker.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to discover, document and implement data warehouse and BI requirements.
- Provide technical guidance on AI/ML and GenAI implementations.
- Support development of GenBI and AI-driven analytics capabilities.
- Provide technical leadership and act as a liaison between stakeholders, developers, vendors and technical support teams.
- Contribute to solution design, architecture, technical documentation and knowledge transfer.
Required Qualifications
- 12+ years of experience in data/BI engineering or analytics.
- 5+ years leading teams of at least three members implementing enterprise BI or large data warehouse solutions.
- 5+ years working with AI/ML or GenAI technologies.
- Proven delivery of at least two production-grade BI/data products, such as dashboards, data models or APIs.
- 2+ years of experience with ETL/ELT pipelines, Snowflake, Amazon Redshift and/or orchestration tools such as Airflow/dbt.
- 2+ years working with OpenAI APIs or comparable LLM platforms.
- Experience building natural-language-to-SQL/query systems and prompt engineering.
- 2+ years of advanced SQL, data modeling and semantic-layer experience.
- Hands-on experience with at least one major BI platform: Power BI, Tableau or Looker.
- 2+ years leading analysts/developers and working directly with business stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS certification.
- Snowflake certification.
- Power BI/Tableau certification.
- AI/ML or GenAI credentials/coursework.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field.
- Ability to work onsite 2–3 business days per week in West Sacramento, CA
Pay: $60.00 - $75.00 per hour
