Company Overview
We are developing a next-generation functional prototype system for End-of-Train (EOT) and Head-of-Train (HOT) railway applications, focused on freight rail operational environments, wireless telemetry, safety-oriented communication, and brake-related functionality.
The project is currently in Phase II prototype engineering and validation, including hardware, embedded systems, laboratory testing, and field validation activities.
We are seeking an experienced railway professional or systems consultant who understands real-world EOT/HOT operations, application scenarios, limitations, operational pain points, and practical railway deployment considerations.
Retired railroad professionals and part-time consultants are welcome to apply.
Responsibilities
- Provide operational and functional guidance for EOT/HOT prototype development
- Review real-world freight rail operational workflows and use cases
- Advise engineering team on:
- EOT/HOT functionality
- train telemetry operations
- brake-related operational behavior
- wireless communication considerations
- fail-safe operational expectations
- Help identify practical limitations and common issues with existing EOT/HOT systems
- Support operational requirement definition and review
- Participate in periodic architecture and prototype review meetings
- Provide feedback on:
- installation concepts
- field operational considerations
- testing scenarios
- human factors and usability
- Support field testing and validation planning
Preferred Background
Candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas are strongly preferred:
- Freight railroad operations
- EOT / HOT systems
- Train telemetry systems
- Locomotive electronics
- Brake systems
- Railway communications
- Rolling stock systems
- Railroad field operations
- Railway systems engineering
Experience from organizations such as Class I railroads, shortline railroads, railroad suppliers, or railway system integrators is highly valued.
Preferred Experience
- Prior experience using, supporting, maintaining, testing, or developing EOT/HOT systems
- Understanding of freight train operational environments
- Familiarity with railway communication reliability challenges
- Ability to explain practical operational issues and field constraints
- Experience participating in field testing or operational troubleshooting is a plus

Compensation
Compensation will be based on experience and level of involvement.

This role is focused on operational expertise and system-level guidance rather than day-to-day software coding or PCB design.
The ideal candidate understands how EOT/HOT systems are actually used in freight railroad environments and can help bridge operational realities with engineering development.
Pay: $40.00 - $60.00 per hour
