Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to serve as the first point of contact for patients and visitors in a busy healthcare environment. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and a comprehensive understanding of medical administrative procedures. This role involves managing patient interactions, coordinating appointments, handling medical records, and supporting clinical staff to ensure smooth daily operations. The Medical Receptionist will uphold the highest standards of patient service, confidentiality, and compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA.
Duties
- Greet patients and visitors warmly, providing exceptional customer service while managing multi-line phone systems with professionalism and courtesy.
- Schedule appointments efficiently using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, or Athenahealth, ensuring accurate documentation and timely follow-up.
- Verify insurance coverage and perform insurance authorization and verification processes to facilitate seamless billing and claims processing.
- Collect and process payments, including medical collections, while maintaining meticulous documentation review for accuracy and completeness.
- Manage patient records by filing, updating electronic medical records (EMR systems), and ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist with medical billing procedures, including CPT coding, ICD-10/ICD-9 coding, and Medicare claims submission to ensure proper reimbursement is helpful
- Support clinical staff by preparing care plans, reviewing documentation, and coordinating patient intake procedures efficiently.
- Maintain office supplies inventory, manage appointment reminders, and ensure the front desk area remains organized and welcoming.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), CPT coding, and medical billing practices is helpful
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel), typing (10 key), and health information management software like Eaglesoft or Dentrix preferred.
- Excellent phone etiquette with the ability to handle multi-line phone systems efficiently while providing exceptional patient service.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation review and office management tasks
