Summary
Responsible for structure supports and thermal design of electrical assembly, structure, and cooling of power transformers weighing up to 100s of Tons. Using and applying mechanical design principles, appropriate industry standards, and proposed product specifications.
Core Responsibilities:
- Conversant with design of machine elements – machine structure, gears and bearings, heat transfer, strength; failure phenomenon from strength and fatigue; conversant with mechanical and thermal properties of metals and plastics.
- Analyze mechanics, strength of materials, thermals, and vibrations to optimize the package wt, size, and temperature.
- Produce design drawings and outlines using CAD system or other appropriate computer systems. Produce accurate, detailed design drawings and outlines of various transformer designs applying all relevant industry standards for tolerances and welding symbols, governing the mechanical fabrication and assemblies.
- Review and check designs produced by other mechanical engineers to help ensure conformance to specifications and error free.
- Generate Bills of Material (BOM) for all materials and accessories for complete assembly.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience in mechanical design and practical knowledge of one of the 3D modeling tools such as Autodesk Inventor, Creo, and AutoCAD.
- Demonstrated proficiency in adaptability, analytical skills, problem solving, time management and organization, and verbal and written communication skills.
