Job Title: Certified Medication Technician for 11pm-7am shift

Job Summary:
The ideal person for this position has a love for seniors and has an understanding of caring for aging issues, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and associated memory issues.
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Medication Technician administers medications as prescribed by the resident’s medical provider and documents the administration, the medication effectiveness, and any noted adverse actions or side effects of the medications in accordance with the established policies and procedures of Inspirations Memory Care, current standards of practice and care and applicable state/federal regulations.
In addition, this position is responsible for caring for residents in assisted living, providing assistance with all activities of daily living as necessary, in addition to all other tasks necessary to provide a clean, safe, and home-like environment for residents.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
*Adheres to and conveys a philosophy that supports the dignity, independence, choice, and individuality of residents.
*Administers medications to residents in accordance with the physician's orders, as documented on the medication administration record (MAR).
*Accurately records on the MAR medications administered, or withheld or refused, and the reason why.
*Safely prepares, administers and charts, oral, topical, and suppository drugs.
*Observes, records, and reports to the Executive Director symptoms and conditions of residents that could be related to medication interactions, adverse drug reactions, or medication side effects.
*Determines and records the effectiveness of medications in a timely and accurate manner as required by state and federal regulations.
*Stores medications in a safe and accurate manner in accordance with established policies and procedures of Inspirations Memory Care and applicable state/federal regulations.
*Monitors medications to ensure adequate accountability measures are taken when medications are ordered, received into the facility, administered, and at the change of shift as required by policies and procedures of Inspirations Memory Care and applicable state/federal regulations.
*Monitors the need for medication refills and communicates appropriately with the pharmacy and the Executive Director as necessary.
*Receives deliveries from the pharmacy for the Assisted Living facility.
*Reviews resident service plans, social history questionnaires, and staff task lists as needed to gain and maintain familiarity with resident service needs and preferences.
*Reviews the staff communication log and corresponding resident progress notes on a daily basis for information about changes in resident service needs and/or health conditions.
*Provides personal care services (including but not limited to toileting, bathing, dressing, grooming, and ambulation) to residents as assigned and as indicated on resident service plans.
*Demonstrates knowledge of and follows infection control procedures.
*Maintains a consistent level of professionalism with residents, family members, and staff.
*Assists with meal services, including setting up tables, serving meals, and cleaning up the dining room.
*Uses and maintains laundry equipment, ensuring safe practice. Maintains an adequate supply of washing chemicals and other related supplies as required. Communicates equipment and supply needs and reports safety hazards.
*Leads a variety of small and large-group resident activity groups such as discussion, arts, crafts, music, exercise, cooking, various games (for mental and physical stimulation), re-motivation, gardening, etc. under the direction of the Executive Director.
*Help the Executive Director to maintain well-organized and labeled event decorations and supplies in storage.
*Monitors for changes in resident needs, preferences, and/or health status, and reports/documents any changes according to established procedures.
*Documents both scheduled and unscheduled care provided, in addition to incidents, behaviors, and out-of-the-ordinary events, including a residents’ refusal of services.
*Communicates to the Executive Director regarding resident health and care issues daily as necessary.
*Attends all staff meetings and in-services.
*Assume responsibility for the safety and well-being of all residents in the assigned neighborhood in the absence of the Executive Director.
*Performs all other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
*Possess knowledge of safe medication administration techniques.
*Ability to learn and work with any new computer software applications.
*Comfortable communicating and working with people at all levels and with senior residents in a positive and professional manner.
*Ability to taste and smell food to determine quality and palatability.
Qualifications:
*High School diploma or equivalent.
*Certified Medication Technician approved by the Maryland Board of Nursing.
*Trained in the provision of personal care services according to Maryland Department of Health Regulations.
*Must be able to communicate in written and oral English.
*Alzheimer’s disease/dementia care experience preferred.
*Must be able to interact effectively with residents, family members, and staff.
*Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
Physical Requirements:
*Must possess a fully functioning sense of sight/hearing or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to allow that position job requirements are fully met.
*Must be able to lift, carry, stand, bend, squat, crawl, reach, kneel, push, pull, and twist using good body mechanics for sustained periods of time.
*Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
*Demonstrates good physical and mental health.
