We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist to join our team and assist with insurance billing, accounts receivable, and denial management.Position SummaryThe Medical Billing Specialist will play an important role in supporting our Revenue Cycle department by working insurance claims, resolving denials, following up on outstanding accounts receivable, and assisting with billing operations. This position is ideal for someone with medical billing experience who enjoys problem-solving, is organized, communicates professionally, and is eager to continue learning and growing.Responsibilities
- Follow up on outstanding insurance claims with commercial and government payers.
- Investigate and resolve claim denials and payment discrepancies.
- Work Accounts Receivable (A/R) aging reports to reduce outstanding balances.
- Contact insurance companies to verify claim status, request reconsiderations, and resolve billing issues.
- Review Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and Electronic Remittance Advices (ERAs).
- Assist with payment posting and account reconciliation as needed.
- Maintain detailed documentation of payer communications and claim activity.
- Utilize Microsoft Excel to organize reports, monitor outstanding claims, and track billing metrics.
- Collaborate with providers, management, and team members to resolve billing issues efficiently.
- Assist with special revenue cycle projects and other billing-related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1–2 years of medical billing experience required.
- Experience working insurance claim follow-up, denial management, and accounts receivable.
- Understanding of medical billing terminology, CPT, ICD-10, and insurance reimbursement processes.
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Positive attitude, dependable, and willing to learn.
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)
- Experience using Modernizing Medicine (ModMed).
- Experience with Availity payer portal.
- Experience using TriZetto or other clearinghouse software.
- Dermatology billing experience.
- Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance carriers.
