Lead Nurse: Health Services Coordinator
Classification: Professional Support Staff, Nonexempt
Qualifications:
Registered Nurse or eligibility for RN license at hire with expectation of licensure for 2026-2027 school year.
Reports to: Building Principal associated with nurse assignment; Health Services Coordinator activities to the Assistant Superintendent of Personnel and Support Services
Position Overview: The School District of Washington is seeking a school nurse to coordinate the District health services program. This includes providing administrative support, monitoring our efforts, ensuring health services at all locations, and assessing the needs of the District. Ideal candidates demonstrate the ability to form professional relationships with staff, effective oral and written communication skills, high level organizational skills, and the ability to work with multiple stakeholder groups. This position has a key role in fostering a positive, productive, and safe environment for students. This position is considered an additional responsibility added to the scope of typical school nursing duties.
Essential Responsibilities:

Work with Human Resources to ensure staffing at all locations. This includes onboarding activities for new employees, professional development for existing employees, and managing employment gaps as necessary.

Stay informed of legislative changes impacting health services operations. This includes a pro-active approach to planning and working with the executive administration on implementation.

Responsible for nurse training related to policies, procedures, compliance, inventory, etc. This includes marketing and informational materials for public access.

Utilize data from multiple sources to analyze our efforts and provide recommendations.

Evaluate District nursing staff.

Observe, promote, and support professional development activities, responsibilities, and ethical practices related to the scope of this position.

Cooperate in partnerships and collaborative efforts to support student and employee needs. Examples include but are not limited to organizing flu shots, vaccine clinics, and other health service options for our staff and/or students.

Regular and reliable attendance is necessary in order to perform the functions of this position.
- Perform associated roles as required for building operations and to respond in the event of an emergency.

Perform other related duties as assigned or required for District operations.
Other Related Responsibilities:

Maintains appropriate student records and timelines associated with school nursing duties.

Attend meetings and workshops necessary for District operations and to enhance knowledge in areas of general responsibility.

Maintains confidential nature of all school related material.

Attend events outside of the regular school day designed to bring the public into the school, serve on a committee, plan appropriate instruction, and attend required meetings associated with the role of “teacher.”
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: The lead nurse work calendar is from the first working day in August to the last working day in May. This calendar is expanded from the school nurse work calendar of 178 working days (185 paid days). Applicable health and ancillary insurance, annual paid leave award, and defined benefit pension. Starting salary established by the Board of Education as it aligns to the RN pay schedule plus $1.00/hour additional for lead nurse activities.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the supervisor using the District’s professional support staff evaluation tool.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND VISUAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. Additionally, the employee may occasionally be required to push or lift up to 50 lbs as necessary for the safety and well-being of others. Lastly, this job requires the employee to have the vision ability to read handwritten or typed materials, and meet multiple demands from several people while interacting with other staff and the public.
