Mount Mercy Academy in Buffalo NY seeks an experienced part time Social Studies teacher for Global I, Women and Civil Rights, and Economics.
The teacher’s core responsibilities include designing engaging lesson plans, facilitating critical discussions on current events, and evaluating student performance through assessments to foster informed, responsible citizenship.
Key Responsibilities
- Curriculum & Instruction: Develop and deliver daily lesson plans that align with state educational standards and curriculum goals.
- Skill Development: Foster critical thinking, debate, and analytical skills by connecting historical events to modern-day issues and current events.
- Assessment & Feedback: Create, administer, and grade assignments, essays, quizzes, and exams to measure student comprehension.
- Inclusive Environment: Adapt teaching methods and materials to accommodate diverse learning styles, IEPs (Individualized Education Programs), and varying academic abilities.
- Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment that encourages participation and respectful discourse.
- Communication: Regularly update parents, school counselors, and administrators on student progress, behavioral concerns, and academic standing.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in History, Social Studies, Political Science, or a related field (Master’s degrees are often preferred).
- Certification: New York State certification in secondary social studies.
- Skills: Exceptional communication, classroom management, and conflict-resolution abilities.
Salary Range: Commensurate with experience: 34,000.00 - $50,000.00
