Position Summary
The Optometrist will provide high-quality vision care services to patients of Memphis Health Center (MHC). The incumbent will be responsible for conducting comprehensive eye examinations, prescribing corrective lenses, managing eye diseases, and promoting overall eye health in alignment with MHC’s mission of delivering excellent, patient-centered care.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
· Perform comprehensive vision tests and analyze results.
· Assess patients’ visual acuity, depth and color perception, and ability to focus and coordinate the eyes.
· Diagnose and manage vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, as well as chronic eye diseases such as glaucoma and cataracts.
· Perform outpatient clinic-based evaluation and treatment of chronic eye conditions.
· Provide preventive eye care, including dilated diabetic eye exams and chronic disease screenings.
· Prescribe eyeglasses, contact lenses, medications, and other corrective solutions.
· Deliver specialized treatments such as vision therapy and low-vision rehabilitation.
· Provide pre- and post-operative care for patients undergoing eye surgeries.
· Evaluate patients for systemic diseases such as diabetes and make appropriate referrals to other healthcare providers.
· Educate and counsel patients on eye health, including proper contact lens use and preventive measures.
· Administer diagnostic and therapeutic medications as permitted.
· Document patient records accurately and timely in accordance with MHC policies and compliance standards.
· Participate in quality improvement initiatives, staff meetings, and continuing education as required.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience
· Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree from an accredited program.
· Current and valid Optometry license in the State of Tennessee.
· Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience as a practicing Optometrist in a clinical setting.
· Demonstrated ability to evaluate diagnostic test results and develop effective treatment plans.
· Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly explain care instructions and address patient questions.
· Strong commitment to patient care, professionalism, and teamwork within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
Preferred Skills & Competencies
· Experience in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) or community health setting.
· Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
· Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
· Demonstrated cultural competence and sensitivity in working with diverse populations.

Pay: $100,540.00 - $137,162.00 per year
