Job Title: Sous Chef

Position Summary
River: A Waterfront Restaurant & Bar is seeking a talented, driven, and hands-on Sous Chef to assist in leading our culinary team in a fast-paced, high-volume, chef-driven environment.
The Sous Chef plays a critical leadership role in the daily operations of the kitchen, supporting the Executive Chef in all aspects of execution, food quality, team development, and operational excellence. This position is ideal for a culinary professional who leads by example, maintains high standards under pressure, and takes pride in consistency, organization, and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Executive Chef in overseeing all kitchen operations, including prep, service, and closing procedures
- Lead, manage, and motivate the BOH team during service while maintaining consistency, timing, and plate presentation
- Execute menu items to established standards, recipes, and specifications
- Train, mentor, and develop line cooks and kitchen staff
- Enforce food safety, sanitation, and health department standards at all times
- Assist with ordering, inventory management, and waste reduction
- Step into a leadership role in the absence of the Executive Chef
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional kitchen environment
- Collaborate on menu development, seasonal offerings, and specials as needed
Qualifications
- 2–5+ years of experience in a Sous Chef or senior culinary leadership role
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Experience in high-volume and/or upscale dining environments preferred
- Strong understanding of classical cooking techniques and modern execution
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and solution-oriented during high-volume service
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and kitchen best practices
Schedule & Physical Requirements
- Full-time position
- Nights, weekends, and holidays required
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen environment
