Speech & Language Development Coach (Community-Based)About the Position
We are looking for a compassionate, engaging, and enthusiastic Speech & Language Development Coach to support a friendly young adult with autism in building communication, conversation, and independent living skills through meaningful community experiences.
This is not a traditional clinic or school-based speech therapy position.
Instead, you will help promote communication throughout everyday activities including the gym, restaurants, shopping, parks, hiking, libraries, and other community outings.
Why This Position is Unique
You will work within a collaborative 2:1 support model.
Another experienced coach will primarily support safety, transitions, and community participation, allowing you to focus on encouraging communication, conversation, and language development throughout the day.
You will also collaborate with the client’s Speech-Language Pathologist to reinforce communication goals during real-life situations.
Your Responsibilities
- Create natural opportunities for conversation.
- Encourage spontaneous language throughout community activities.
- Support functional communication, including requesting, commenting, asking questions, and expressing needs.
- Help develop storytelling and recall skills.
- Encourage self-advocacy and independent communication.
- Support social interaction with family members, staff, and community members.
- Share observations with the family and Speech Therapist.
Preferred Background

- SLPA
- Communication Disorders
- Special Education
- Psychology
- ABA
- Autism Support
- Related fields
SLPA experience is preferred but not required.

Pay: $50.00 - $60.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
