Payroll Specialist

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our growing electrical contracting company. This position plays a critical role in supporting our field and office teams by overseeing payroll and compliance requirements, and coordinating company safety initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in the construction industry and possess a solid understanding of certified payroll, prevailing wage requirements, union payroll administration, and employee relations. This individual must be highly organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process weekly payroll accurately and timely
- Submit manual payments based on weekly payroll activity
- Set up jobs in payroll software and verify the union local/payrate corresponds to appropriate agreements/locations
- Maintain payroll records and supporting documentation
- Prepare certified payroll reports using the State of Illinois portal and LCP Tracker
- Admin for new hire/term paperwork
- Processing monthly union reporting and submit to various locals
- Reconcile union payments to general ledger accruals
- Document preparation for union/insurance/tax audits
- Admin for the safety compliance programs
- Draft/Update compliance programs with project managers and superintendents
- Monitor program documentation and compliance
Qualifications
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in payroll, office management, or compliance administration
- Construction industry experience strongly preferred
- Experience processing certified payroll and prevailing wage reporting required
- Experience with union payroll administration and benefit remittances preferred
- Strong understanding of payroll practices and employment regulations
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Experience with construction software and payroll systems is a plus
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion

Pay: From $60,000.00 per year
