Grown Rogue is a craft cannabis company that has, and continues to grow rapidly since 2016. We are a publicly traded, multi-state operator that files in accordance with U.S. GAAP financial statements with the SEC as a domestic filer (Forms 10-K and 10-Q), while maintaining our reporting obligations in Canada. Our consolidated group spans the states where we operate – Oregon, New Jersey, and Michigan, with Minnesota and Illinois launching in 2026 – several with active cannabis operations and some carrying minority interests.
The Corporate Controller leads the Company’s accounting function and owns the integrity of its financial reporting. Reporting to the CFO, this role directs period-end close, technical accounting under U.S. GAAP, will assist with SEC and Canadian filing compliance, assists the CFO with tax compliance and strategy, and safeguards Company assets through implementing strong internal controls with an eye towards SOX compliance in coming years. The Controller guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing accounting policies and procedures and works to move the organization toward strong, sustainable growth by developing and implementing new systems and processes.
The Corporate Controller directly manages the Staff Accountant and Senior Accountant and works as a peer to the Director of FP&A and the Assistant Controller.
Open to candidates located in any state where Grown Rogue operates (OR, NJ, MI, MN, and IL)- Oregon preferred.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Period close & financial reporting:
- Oversee and improve month-end close, directing the work of the Staff Accountant and Senior Accountant.
- Prepare and/or review month-end inventory and cost of goods sold accounting.
- Prepare and/or review new and recurring technical areas such as operating and financing leases, debt and equity, share-based compensation, and derivatives.
- Review and approve supporting schedules for all balance sheet GL accounts at month-end.
- Establish a rigorous close calendar and schedule with the goal of closing the books on the 5th working day of each month and quarter.
- With assistance of 3rd party advisory group, review and prepare portions of U.S. GAAP quarterly and annual financial statements and preparation of forms 10Q and 10K.
- Prepare workpapers and memos for complex, non-routine, or unusual transactions in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Enforce coding of expenses in accordance with internal policies for expense codes and cost centers.
Audit
- Take primary responsibility to respond to or delegate audit requests on a timely basis and serve as primary internal audit management resource to ensure all deliverables necessary to meet deadlines are timely and accurate.
- Document accounting treatment of transactions and agreements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Document and improve internal controls (the Company is not currently subject to SOX 404B but will begin SOX readiness preparation soon).
Tax and Compliance
- Assist CFO with data requests to facilitate the preparation of state, federal and Canadian tax returns prepared by 3rd party firms.
Team & operations
- Leverage and develop the skills of accounting team members.
- Collaborate extensively with CFO, Director of FP&A and Assistant Controller to manage and judiciously expand headcount as the Company’s geographic expansion strategy proceeds forward.
- Assist in the review of agreements both before and after to support technical accounting and risk management.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA required.
- 7+ years of accounting experience, with a strong preference for public company audit experience.
- 3+ years of Controller or financial leadership experience, including supervision of accounting staff.
- Strong, detailed knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
- Experience with multi-entity, multi-state consolidations and public-company (SEC) reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Proficiency in Power BI and Power Query desired.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Cannabis industry accounting experience (desired, not required).
- Comfortable utilizing advanced technology like Artificial Intelligence to improve processes and recommended accounting strategies.
Physical demand and work environment:
- This job is conducted in an office work environment, sitting most of the time.
- Approximately 90% of this position’s duties require use of a computer.
- Must be able to exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally.
