Position: Substitute Armed School Security Officer
Location: All schools and all shifts, as needed
Starting Date: August 2026
Remuneration: $27.69/hour
Qualifications:
Must be a retired CT law enforcement officer/retired in good standing;
Flexible schedule to accept assignments with minimal notice at times;
Strong verbal communication skills;
Self-motivated team player; and
Good physical condition to maintain an active presence.
Responsibilities:
Provide security for the building and grounds of Newtown Public Schools;
Process visitors, provide walking patrol covering the hallways and other
areas of the school and campus;
Report and aid in the investigation of vandalism, theft, and other incidents
occurring on school property;
Willing and able to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions;
Flexible schedule-available to accept assignments (at times, with minimal
advanced notice);
Consult with administrators on a continuing basis; and
Carry out all facets of the position consistently and enthusiastically,
including visitor management and video surveillance.
