Part-Time Plastic Surgery Recovery Nurse (PACU/Recovery RN)
Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Registered Nurse (RN) to join our plastic surgery practice on a part-time basis. The Recovery Nurse is responsible for providing safe, high-quality postoperative care to patients recovering from cosmetic and reconstructive surgical procedures. This role involves monitoring patients during recovery, managing pain and nausea, educating patients and caregivers, and ensuring patients meet discharge criteria.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor patients during the immediate postoperative recovery period.
- Assess and document vital signs, pain levels, and recovery progress.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, and treatments as ordered.
- Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition or emergencies.
- Provide postoperative instructions and education to patients and their caregivers.
- Ensure patients meet discharge criteria before release.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and clinical staff to ensure continuity of care.
- Prepare and maintain recovery room equipment and supplies.
- Follow infection control, patient safety, and HIPAA guidelines.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with accreditation standards.
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
- BLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of nursing experience in PACU, ambulatory surgery, ICU, or critical care preferred.
- Experience in plastic surgery or outpatient surgery center preferred.
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR).
Schedule
- Part-time (depending on surgical schedule).
- Primarily Thursday, Friday, Saturday (5-7 days a month)
- Flexibility to stay until all patients have safely recovered and been discharged.
