Position Summary
The Western Slope Native American Resource Center (WSNARC) is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and safety-focused Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) Driver to provide reliable transportation services for Native American individuals and families accessing medical care, behavioral health services, community resources, and other essential appointments.
This position plays a vital role in removing transportation barriers and ensuring community members receive timely access to healthcare and supportive services. The ideal candidate enjoys serving others, demonstrates professionalism and cultural sensitivity, and is committed to providing exceptional customer service while maintaining the highest standards of safety.
What You'll Do
- Safely transport clients to and from medical appointments, behavioral health appointments, pharmacies, dialysis treatments, hospitals, and other approved destinations.
- Assist passengers entering and exiting the vehicle, including individuals with mobility limitations.
- Operate wheelchair lifts, secure mobility devices, and ensure all passengers are properly restrained when applicable.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and promptly report maintenance concerns.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness, fuel levels, and general readiness.
- Accurately complete daily trip logs, mileage reports, vehicle inspection forms, and incident reports.
- Coordinate transportation schedules with dispatch and program staff.
- Communicate professionally with clients, healthcare providers, and community partners.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
- Follow all Colorado Department of Transportation regulations and NEMT program requirements.
- Respond calmly and appropriately during emergencies or unexpected situations.
- Support clients with dignity, respect, and compassion while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Participate in required trainings and staff meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the organization's mission.
QualificationsRequired
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Colorado Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
- Minimum age of 21.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check, drug screening, and motor vehicle record review.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Ability to use smartphones, GPS navigation, and electronic documentation systems.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist passengers with mobility needs.
Preferred
- Previous experience in non-emergency medical transportation, healthcare transportation, public transit, or human services.
- Experience working with Native American communities or other culturally diverse populations.
- Defensive Driving certification.
- Wheelchair Securement certification.
- Knowledge of local healthcare providers and regional transportation routes.

Work Environment
- Frequent driving throughout Western Colorado.

- May require early morning, evening, or occasional weekend transportation schedules.
Physical Requirements
- Safely operate passenger vehicles for extended periods.
- Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Assist passengers entering and exiting vehicles.
- Bend, kneel, stoop, and reach as necessary.
- Maintain visual acuity and hearing necessary for safe driving.
