Position Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in the delivery of high-quality care within a mental health and substance use disorder treatment setting. The RN provides nursing support for clients participating in Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization (PHP) programs, ensuring safe medication management, medical monitoring, client education, and coordination of care. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Nursing Assessments & Admissions
- Complete nursing assessments and intake screenings for new admissions (vitals, blood draws, etc.)
- Coordinate and review admission laboratory testing and diagnostic results.
- Identify and communicate abnormal findings to psychiatric providers and treatment team members.
- Assist in evaluating clients for medical stability and appropriateness for services.
Medication Management
- Perform comprehensive medication reconciliation upon admission and throughout treatment.
- Maintain accurate medication logs and documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Supervise medication self-administration processes and oversee the preparation and monitoring of client pill organizers/medication boxes.
- Monitor medication compliance and report concerns to the psychiatric provider.
- Observe for medication side effects, adverse reactions, withdrawal symptoms, and potential medication interactions.
Client Care & Triage
- Triage client medical and psychiatric complaints, assessing urgency and determining appropriate interventions.
- Respond to client health concerns and coordinate care with psychiatric providers, primary care providers, pharmacies, and other healthcare professionals.
- Monitor client health status and communicate changes in condition to the treatment team.
Psychiatric Provider Support
- Provide clinical and administrative support to the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and/or Medical Director.
- Assist with medication orders, prescription management, and care coordination.
- Obtain and facilitate prior authorizations (PAs) for prescribed medications with insurance providers and pharmacies.
- Coordinate medication refills and pharmacy communications as needed.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant clinical documentation in accordance with organizational policies, state regulations, and accreditation standards.
- Document nursing assessments, medication reconciliations, client interactions, education provided, and clinical interventions.
- Ensure confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 regulations.
Client Education
- Provide education regarding prescribed medications, treatment expectations, side effects, and medication adherence.
- Educate clients and families on health promotion, substance use recovery, relapse prevention, and wellness strategies.
- Reinforce the importance of medication compliance and active participation in treatment.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
- Participate in treatment team meetings and case consultations.
- Collaborate with therapists, case managers, psychiatric providers, and external healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive client care.
- Support crisis intervention and client safety planning efforts when necessary.
QualificationsRequired
- Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience.
- Knowledge of psychotropic medications and substance use disorder treatment.
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR).
Preferred
- Experience in behavioral health, psychiatry, addiction medicine, detoxification, PHP, or IOP settings.
- Experience with insurance prior authorizations and pharmacy coordination.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
