Yakima Valley Libraries is excited to offer a part-time (25 hours per week) Library Assistant II position at the Yakima Central Library.
This position plays an important role in ensuring library materials are ready for use across the Yakima Valley Libraries system. Responsibilities include the physical processing of new books and media, repairing and maintaining library collections, and preparing materials for distribution to library locations. The successful candidate will contribute to the efficient operation of library services while supporting access to resources for the community.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Material Processing and Sorting: Unpacks incoming books and media, sorts items for physical processing, and ensures accurate distribution.

Labeling and Security Tagging: Adds barcodes, stamps, labels, theft detection devices, and protective jackets to library materials.

Laminating Services: Laminates book covers, signs, posters, and materials for other departments as requested.

Post-Cataloging Processing: Post-processes materials after cataloging and distributes them for shipment to assigned libraries.

Book and Media Repair: Repairs and re-cases library media and other materials as needed.

Magazine Processing: Processes and checks in magazines, ensuring timely availability for patrons.

Distribute Materials: Distribute new and processed materials to the appropriate library ensuring materials are safely packaged for delivery.

Withdrawn Materials Processing: Prepares and processes withdrawn materials for disposal or redistribution.

Material Mending and Cleaning: Mends, cleans, and repairs library books and other materials to ensure longevity.

Supply Management: Orders and maintains necessary supplies for the Technical Services Department.

Performs additional duties as needed to support the department's operations.

Required Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent

One year of related, detail-oriented work experience

Equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience may be substituted.

Compensation and Benefits

The pay for this position spans from $19.14 - $25.12 hour, but most begin on Step 1 pending qualifications.
