Welcome to Logos Christian Academy!
We are a premier evangelical Christian classical school in Pinal County. LCA began in 2009 with a handful of students and one teacher. Over the last fifteen years, we have grown to Kinder - 12th grade with a full complement of faculty and administration. Our mission is to equip the emerging generations academically and spiritually for life and ministry and to ensure a safe and appropriate environment for that to be achieved.
TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION
This is not intended to be a complete delineation of all the possible responsibilities of a Logos Christian Academy teacher; rather it is a general description of the basic tasks with which a teacher will be required to perform. In addition to the following, it is expected that the teacher will comply with all applicable school policies and guidelines.
A. SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP - The teacher is expected to consistently exhibit love, joy, peace, and spiritual maturity before their students and the rest of the school. The teacher is expected to be a student and lover of the Bible, God's only written Word. He or she is to use the school's curriculum guide and the Bible in constructing their daily classes. Active, joyful participation in any staff prayer meetings and school assemblies is expected for all full time staff and encouraged for all part time staff.
B. CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT/ENVIRONMENT- The teacher is expected to maintain a neat, organized, clean, and stimulating classroom environment for students. This implies that the students will take an active part in cleaning and maintaining their room's appearance. The teacher should set up simple, manageable class routines to accomplish basic tasks, e.g. taking attendance, homework collection, daily cleaning schedules, materials storage and distribution, etc.
C. CLASSROOM DECORUM AND DISCIPLINE - The teacher should be very familiar with and able to apply the spirit, as well as the letter, of the school rules. An orderly (not necessarily silent) working atmosphere is to be the norm. Students should be fully informed and when needed reminded of the class and school rules and be encouraged to exercise self-discipline. When administrative discipline is necessary, the teacher is expected to accompany the student to the office and give the administration an accurate account of the student's offense. The teacher is expected to diffuse and deal with the vast majority of corrective discipline situations within the classroom.
D. LESSON PREPARATION AND PRESENTATION - The teacher should have a thorough knowledge of and interest in the subjects he or she is assigned to teach. The teacher is expected to encourage the students to see how all subjects are interrelated, as parts of God's integrated universe. Clear language and grade appropriate vocabulary is also expected.
E. STUDENT LEARNING - The teacher should seek to stimulate and maintain the students' interest in the material with the cooperation of the student. Recognition and reasonable accommodation for individual needs is also necessary. A variety of techniques (in addition to testing) should be used to measure the students' progress (see the Lost Tools Chart). Our LCA curriculum is to be used as the basis for measuring the overall progress of the class and individual students.
F. PLANNING AND COMMUNICATIONS - The teacher's weekly and quarterly plans should reflect creativity and a good use of class time. The curriculum should be used to establish lesson plans. Emphasis should be placed on getting to know the families well and informing them about what is happening in the class. LCA parents should feel welcome to visit and assist in the classroom.
G. ROOM PARENTS - All classroom teachers are to select a room parent each year to help them with communication and planning for fundraising events, classroom parties, and as a source of encouragement for the teacher. Room parents should never take the place or the authority of the teacher and if a matter of authority should arise, such a matter should be brought to the attention of the administrator.
H. PROFESSIONALISM - The teacher is to consistently and joyfully demonstrate pride in Logos Christian Academy by their work, punctuality, speech, attitude, dress, and attention to duties. The teacher is to not talk negatively about any student, staff or parent other than at designated times aimed at solution based approaches to address concerns.
I. PEDAGOGY DEVELOPMENT – The teacher must be “teachable” and fully participate in formal training and mentoring as provided by LCA, throughout the school year. These include teacher in-service days, short-term intensive training, one-on-one mentoring, etc. Logos teachers will yearly participate in the reading of classical literature and discussions by way of The Great Books to include The Great Ideas in the furtherance of The Great Conversation. Each LCA teacher will be provided supplemental required reading material for spiritual and academic enhancement and each teacher will take a supportive role in the pedagogical development of other fellow teachers whenever possible. Finally, the teacher should commit to honing one’s own teaching abilities through their own efforts. This might include engaging with books, periodicals, webinars, etc.
