Work Hours/Days: School days, Monday through Friday, approximately 7:30 am-3:30 pm *Involvement in professional development days, work days, staff meetings, and other staff/faculty days will be determined as needed
Position Summary :
The Physical Education Teaching Assistant at Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools, Inc. supports the delivery of a high-quality classical education by assisting classroom and Physical Education teachers in providing instruction, reinforcing lesson objectives, supporting classroom management, and maintaining a safe, orderly, and disciplined learning environment. This position provides academic and behavioral support to individual students and small groups, assists with classroom organization and daily operations, supervises students during instructional and physical education activities, prepares and maintains instructional materials and equipment, and promotes character, sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy habits in alignment with the school's mission of fostering academic excellence, moral character, and civic virtue.
Essential Functions:
- Collaborate directly with classroom and/or Physical Education teacher(s) to implement a content-rich classical education by following curriculum guidelines and instructional expectations.
- Substitute teach when assigned during teacher absences.
- Assist with classroom and physical education "housekeeping" duties, including preparing, organizing, and distributing instructional materials, collecting and organizing student work, setting up and putting away equipment, and maintaining clean, safe, and orderly learning environments.
- Build positive relationships with students by providing individual and small-group instruction, monitoring missing work, supporting behavior management, proctoring assessments, implementing student accommodations, and encouraging good character, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Assist with the instruction and supervision of physical education classes by reinforcing lesson objectives, demonstrating activities as directed, promoting safety, supervising students during physical activities, and encouraging healthy habits and active participation.
- Assist with daily school operations, including student arrival and dismissal, hallways, lunch, recess, transitions, assemblies, field trips, and other assigned supervisory responsibilities.

Be respectfully assertive in guiding and mentoring students through classical pedagogy and positive behavior support.
- Proctor or supervise classroom and annual assessments as assigned.
- Proactively identify struggling or advanced students and communicate observations to the supervising teacher to support intervention or enrichment.
- Collaborate with teachers and Student Services staff to implement accommodations for students with IEPs, Section 504 Plans, and other educational support plans.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information and establish professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and members of the school community.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
- Assist with school athletic activities, practices, games, and other student events as assigned by the Physical Education teacher or school administration.
- Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance, complete all required training, and perform other duties as assigned.

- Ability to stand, walk, and actively participate in physical activities for extended periods Capability to lift and move equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds Willingness to conduct classes and activities outdoors in various weather conditions Maintain a high level of physical fitness to demonstrate exercises and techniques to students
