Mercy House, an emergency shelter operated by IPHNY, is looking for a Direct Support Supervisor who’s ready to lead, support, and inspire a team while helping create a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for individuals experiencing homelessness.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can balance compassion with accountability and step in wherever needed to support guests, staff, and operations.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading and supporting a team of Direct Support Staff across day, evening, overnight, and weekend shifts
- Creating schedules, covering shifts when needed, and keeping operations running smoothly
- Coaching staff, supporting training, and modeling professionalism on the floor
- Helping maintain a calm, safe, and respectful shelter environment
- Assisting with guest intakes, documentation, and day-to-day shelter operations
- Jumping in during crises, de-escalation situations, or unexpected challenges
- Serving as the bridge between frontline staff and leadership
What We’re Looking For
- A confident, approachable leader who leads by example
- Someone organized, reliable, and comfortable making decisions
- Experience supervising or supporting staff in residential or human services settings
- Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency
- A valid driver’s license and flexibility to work varied shifts
Experience in homeless services or trauma-informed care is a plus — but if you have the right mindset, we can train the rest.
