OVERVIEW and iMPACT:
Volunteer Job Search Assistants at the Appleton Public Library (APL) provide help to people searching for jobs for a variety of career and employment-related needs. APL offers free access to study rooms, computers with internet, and wi-fi, so volunteers can provide individual assistance to people seeking assistance. Volunteers are available at the library to assist job seekers with job searches, online applications, building a resume and cover letter, learning new skills (upskilling) using our FREE digital resources such as Gale Courses and Mango Languages, and exploring career changes. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
RESPONSIBILITIES and EXPECTATIONS:
Providing employment assistance, training, and resources to people looking for work
Teaching patrons to set up accounts and use online resources for employment, training, and education:
- Job search sites (i.e., Job Center, Indeed, etc.)
- APL upskilling resources (i.e., Gale Courses, Mango Languages)
- Community resources (i.e., 2-1-1, community bulletin board, jobs/career/business bulletin board)
Finding résumé templates and/or assisting with creating résumés
Listening attentively and asking open-ended questions to help patrons identify and articulate job skills
Printing, scanning, and copying on public APL devices
Providing library directions (i.e., bathrooms) and hours
