POSITION: MAINTENANCE Location:
TERMS OF
EMPLOYMENT: 12 Months – 40 hour work week as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School diploma or equivalent
2. General knowledge of basic electrical (line and low voltage), plumbing, carpentry, construction and all facets of general building repairs
3. Skilled in the use of power and specialty tools for measuring, controlling, and diagnosing
building equipment and electrical panels
4. Able to communicate and understand simple written and oral instructions in English
5. Able to read and understand blueprints
6. Able to operate standard hand-held tools as well as electric, and gas powered equipment and machinery
7. Working knowledge of electrical wiring schematics, up to and including 480 volts, electrical panels and able to rewire small equipment
8. Working knowledge of domestic water heaters
9. Able to lift up to 50 lb. and transport materials (lumber material, drywall, etc.) of that
weight to various sites and throughout the school
10. Able to effectively navigate and operate smartphone, computer and district software
11. Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
12. Must have a current and valid Illinois drivers license
13. Must have forklift and aerial certification
REPORTS TO: JOB GOAL:
Maintenance & Grounds Coordinator
Provide students, teachers, and the community with a safe, clean, attractive, comfortable and efficient environment in which to learn and teach
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
⮚ Perform basic to semi-skilled maintenance work related to the care and upkeep of the school district property
⮚ Participate in district-wide snow removal. Must be available to be on call 24 hours/7days a week during the snow plowing season
⮚ Ensure adherence to principles and practices of safety equipment use and operation
⮚ Report any mechanical failures or negative conditions as observed in the assigned area to supervisor
⮚ Perform minor construction, furniture repair, and/or remodeling of buildings
⮚ Participate in the completion of work orders assigned
⮚ Initiate work orders when administration/staff inquires with a new or unusual task
⮚ Perform cleaning and maintenance of equipment, tools, materials, maintenance storage rooms, and
all related maintenance rooms
⮚ Perform preventative maintenance tasks according to established schedules
⮚ Completion of items identified in the annual building inspections, roof maintenance, masonry
repair, plumbing, doors and hardware, locks and hydraulic closer, etc
⮚ Ensure compliance with and adherence to applicable codes, ordinances, building and safety
standards regarding all aspects of building maintenance and construction

⮚ Ensure overall security of District buildings assigned as it relates to activation/deactivation of security system, locking/unlocking doors, repair of windows, doors, locks, etc
⮚ Respond to emergency or critical incidents in order to confine, resolve, and/or prevent
environmentally hazardous conditions
⮚ Visual inspection of district AED devices and replace cabinet batteries
⮚ Monthly inspections of fire extinguishers
⮚ Attend twenty-four hour call-back for emergency purposes
⮚ Participate in weekend/holiday security/heating check
⮚ Fills-in for absent custodians when needed
⮚ Turn in weekly vehicle inspection reports to Building Service Coordinator
⮚ Function independently as applicable to assigned work
⮚ When requested to participate in a crew activity, do so willingly
⮚ Maintain your area with a sense of pride as it represents what you do.
⮚ Be a good example to students, staff and community users as you represent the
District
⮚ Assist in other sites as assigned by the Building Services Coordinator
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
⮚ Daily Procedures
- Communicate with the Building Services Coordinator for daily events related to assigned areas
- Wear required uniform, district badge and protective equipment
- Select materials and supplies from maintenance shop, load district truck and transport to work area. At the end of shift return unused supplies and materials, clean equipment, leaving district truck in a clean and orderly condition
- Purchase necessary materials required for completion of work orders
- Complete assigned work orders neatly, accurately and timely
- Respond to emergency building issues
- Corrects and reports to supervisor, immediately any unsafe conditions which may arise
- Promote personnel safety, safety procedures, and safe working environment
⮚ Monthly Procedures
- Perform preventative scheduled maintenance on building components
- Clean and maintain equipment, tools, and district vehicle
- Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase at monthly maintenance meetings
⮚ Perform all other tasks as assigned by the Director of Facility Operations or his

Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert very heavy physical effort in very heavy work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavy objects and materials up to 50 pounds
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and depths. Most tasks require visual perception and discrimination Environmental factors: Tasks are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions; such as wetness, humidity, machinery, vibrations, temperature and noise extremes, electrical currents, bright or dim lighting, etc
