Job Title: Mechanical Engineer — Custom Metal Fabrication
Company: Teo Fabrications Inc / HM Metalworks
Location: Vernon, NJ — on-site
Job Type: Full-time
Pay Range: $70,000 – $85,000+ / year
About Us
HM Metalworks, operating under Teo Fabrications Inc, is a custom metal fabrication shop in Vernon, NJ serving clients in energy storage, indoor agriculture, hospitality, industrial OEMs, and architectural fabrication. We've experienced significant growth over the past three years and we're accelerating — not slowing down. Our capabilities include laser cutting, CNC press brake forming, robotic MIG welding, and IPG laser welding. We work on diverse projects — from concept to finished, installed product — and we move fast. We're building something real here, and we're looking for people who want to grow with us. The engineer we hire will work directly with ownership and the shop floor, and will have genuine opportunity to shape the direction of the business.
The Role
We're looking for a junior-to-mid level mechanical engineer who's strong in CAD and ready to grow. You'll take customer requirements and sketches, develop 3D models, create shop-ready drawings, and learn our quoting and fabrication process along the way. This is a real growth opportunity — you'll see your designs built and continuously expand what you can handle.
What You'll Do
Build 3D models and weldments in Autodesk Inventor; produce drawings with proper notes and weld symbols ready for the shop floor. Generate accurate bills of materials from customer STEP files and your own designs. Develop drawings for laser cutting, press brake forming, and welded assemblies. Learn our quoting process — material takeoffs, nesting, labor, and pricing — working alongside the owner. Collaborate with customers on technical specs, design questions, and project requirements through calls, emails, and in-person meetings. Conduct on-site visits with clients for measurements, site assessments, and to understand their installation and operational needs. Support the shop floor with drawing clarifications and process improvements as needed. Help document and standardize our engineering practices.
What We're Looking For
Mechanical engineering or CAD experience (fabrication, sheet metal, or weldments preferred but not required). Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor; SolidWorks experience is also fine. Solid grasp of GD&T, welding symbols, and basic structural steel or HSS concepts. Willingness to learn the fabrication side — you should be curious about how parts actually get made. Strong communication skills and comfort with face-to-face customer interactions — you'll visit job sites, take measurements, and discuss technical requirements directly with clients. Good at asking clarifying questions and translating customer needs into solid designs. BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
Nice to Have
Hands-on fab shop experience preferred — time spent welding, running a press brake, operating a laser, or working the floor in any capacity. Any exposure to laser nesting, press brake operations, or welding processes. Quoting or estimating experience. Experience with structural steel codes or standards.
Why HM Metalworks / Teo Fabrications
Hands-on growth — learn design, fabrication, and quoting directly from ownership. Variety: your designs go from concept to finished part, and no two weeks are the same. Modern equipment (IPG LightWELD 1500, robotic weld cell, CNC press, fiber laser). Direct impact — you're not one of fifty engineers; what you do shapes the business. Real path forward — we're building the engineering function and you'll be core to it.
Benefits
Paid time off. Health insurance. 401k eligibility. Continuing education support.
