Job Title: Legal Assistant / Receptionist (Family Law Firm)
Company: Law Office of Katy M. Lovett PLLC
Location: Round Rock, TX
Job Type: Full-Time, In-Person
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
Salary: $45,000 to $65,000 per year (Commensurate with experience)
Benefits: 100% employer-paid health insurance, PTO, and a 401k with 6% 401(k) match.
About the Job: We are a fast-paced, highly strategic small family law firm based in Round Rock, Texas. We handle complex, high-stakes divorce and custody cases, and we do it with genuine empathy and efficiency. We are looking for a sharp, organized, and welcoming Legal Assistant to run our front desk and keep the administrative side of the office moving seamlessly.
Our managing attorney handles the heavy substantive legal drafting, so your role is a true hybrid: you are the friendly first point of contact for our clients, and you are the person who keeps the firm's calendar and filings accurate and on track.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Owning the Phones: You are the first voice our clients hear. You will answer calls, schedule consultations, and give existing clients clear, supportive updates on their cases.
- Professional Correspondence: You will be drafting emails to clients, court clerks, opposing counsel, and our internal team. Your written communication must be clear, concise, and highly professional.
- Document Collection & Inventories: You will guide clients through the process of gathering necessary documents for their cases. You will also help compile our clients' financial assets and liabilities. We will teach you our exact system for organizing these, but prior experience with different types of financial accounts (bank statements, retirement accounts, brokerage statements) is a massive plus.
- Document Prep & E-Filing: Formatting, proofreading, and e-filing pleadings and discovery in Texas courts.
- Calendar Management: Managing our firm's docket & filings and keeping track of all statutory deadlines, hearings, and mediations so nothing slips through the cracks.
Who We're Looking For:
- You are a professional communicator: Whether you are calming a distressed client on the phone or drafting an email to a court coordinator, your communication is polished. You know how to write a proper, well-formatted email.
- You have a warm heart but professional boundaries: Our clients are going through the worst moments of their lives. You need to be empathetic, patient, and able to make them feel heard and safe.
- You value accuracy: In family law, the details really matter. We don't expect absolute perfection, but we do expect you to take pride in double-checking your work and asking questions if something doesn't make sense.
- You look ahead: You don't wait to be told what to do. You look at the calendar for next week and start getting things ready today.
Experience:
- Demonstrated experience communicating professionally via email.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically with Outlook (for calendar and email management) and basic Excel functions (primarily for organizing financial inventories).
- Prior experience in a Texas family law office is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with Texas e-filing is a huge plus, but we can easily teach you if you are comfortable learning new technology.
- Knowledge of different types of financial accounts/statements is a plus, though we are fully prepared to train the right person.
Why Work Here? We offer a compensation package that beats most big firms (100% paid health insurance, PTO, plus 401k with a 6% match) because we want to hire someone great and keep them around for the long haul.
We will never throw you to the wolves. We will give you the training you need to succeed while reviewing your work closely to make sure you feel totally confident in our systems and standards. Once you are comfortable with the workflow and have the details down, we will get out of your way and trust you to manage your desk with autonomy.
At our office, you will not have to fight Austin traffic to get to a downtown location, and we offer free parking, conveniently located directly outside of our office suite.
How to Apply: Because following instructions, clear communication, and technical accuracy are important for this role, we will be evaluating your application as your first test.
To apply, please email your resume along with a cover letter explaining why you would be a great fit for our team to [email protected] using the following instructions:
