American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Neuro Days position requiring 1 year of recent experience and NIHSS certification.

Work in the Medical Surgical Neuro unit of a 32-bed hospital environment
-
Day shift schedule (4x12 hours), 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM
-
Nurse to patient ratio of 1:6
-
Participates in rapid response team activation
-
No on-call responsibilities
-
Floating required to like units within scope as needed
-
Weekend requirement of 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week period

Epic charting system used
-
Active RN license (New Mexico or Compact) currently in hand or pending, must be obtained prior to start

Current certifications: BLS and NIHSS required, CPI preferred
-
Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg nursing experience required
-
Experience with 1:6 patient ratios preferred
-
Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line management
-
Experience with respiratory care including chest tubes, HFNC, nasal cannula, and oxygen administration

Experience with GI care including colostomy/ileostomy and feeding tube management
-
Familiarity with CVA/neurological patient care preferred
-
Experience administering Heparin, insulin, and PCA medications
-
Knowledge of isolation precautions, PPE, and wound care/wound vac management
-
Experience with renal/genitourinary care including pre/post hemodialysis management

Experience with surgical drains
-
First-time travelers are welcome to apply, provided they have at least 24 months of nursing experience

Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility as locals are not accepted

Former staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler

No travel pairs or groups accepted

Receives brief orientation when floating to other units

Provide care within a Med/Surg Neuro unit setting supporting a range of patient conditions
