Job Summary
Promise Health Medical Institute is seeking an experienced, dependable, and student-focused CNA Instructor to provide classroom, skills-laboratory, hybrid, and clinical instruction for our four-week Certified Nursing Assistant training program.
The ideal candidate is a licensed nurse with strong long-term care, direct patient-care, and teaching experience. The instructor will help students develop the knowledge, professionalism, safety practices, and hands-on nursing-assistant skills required to complete the program, prepare for the Georgia Nurse Aide competency examination, and enter the healthcare workforce.
This position requires in-person instruction for skills laboratories and selected classroom sessions. Some lessons may be delivered through Zoom or PHMI’s online learning platform. The instructor may also supervise students during approved clinical or externship experiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach CNA course content according to PHMI’s state-approved curriculum and established four-week program schedule.
- Provide engaging classroom, skills-laboratory, hybrid, and clinical instruction.
- Demonstrate and supervise all required nurse aide skills safely and accurately.
- Teach infection control, Standard Precautions, resident rights, patient safety, communication, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Provide instruction in activities of daily living, personal care, mobility, positioning, transfers, nutrition, elimination, vital signs, documentation, restorative care, and emergency procedures.
- Teach students how to provide respectful, person-centered care to elderly, disabled, and medically fragile residents.
- Demonstrate proper use of gait belts, wheelchairs, mechanical equipment, beds, mannequins, and other nursing-assistant training supplies.
- Supervise students while they practice skills on simulation equipment, classmates, volunteers, or approved residents.
- Ensure students complete all required classroom, laboratory, and clinical hours.
- Complete and maintain accurate student skills checklists.
- Date and initial each required competency individually after the student successfully demonstrates the skill.
- Ensure students sign their completed skills checklists as required.
- Provide the required page or chapter references on skills documentation when applicable.
- Evaluate student progress throughout the program and complete written progress evaluations.
- Provide timely feedback, counseling, and remediation to students who need additional assistance.
- Prepare students for the Georgia Nurse Aide written and skills competency examinations.
- Conduct skills reviews, mock examinations, study sessions, and exam-preparation activities.
- Grade assignments, quizzes, examinations, skills checkoffs, and laboratory activities.
- Maintain accurate attendance, grades, clinical records, competency documentation, and student-progress records.
- Confirm that required student documents are complete before clinical participation.
- Monitor student attendance, punctuality, conduct, uniform compliance, and professionalism.
- Communicate promptly with PHMI administration regarding absences, academic concerns, behavioral issues, safety concerns, or incomplete requirements.
- Supervise students at approved clinical facilities and maintain appropriate instructor-to-student ratios.
- Ensure students receive feedback during laboratory and clinical instruction.
- Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and professional classroom and laboratory environment.
- Monitor supplies and notify administration when equipment or materials are needed.
- Participate in student orientation, faculty meetings, instructor training, program reviews, audits, inspections, and compliance activities.
- Follow PHMI policies, procedures, curriculum requirements, and applicable Georgia Department of Community Health standards.
- Assist with student retention, career readiness, professionalism, résumé preparation, and employment preparation.
- Complete other instructional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the State of Georgia.
- Minimum of one year of nursing experience.
- Experience providing direct patient care.
- Completion of an approved Train-the-Trainer program or willingness to complete required instructor training before teaching.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Strong knowledge of Certified Nursing Assistant duties, resident care, infection control, safety, documentation, and scope of practice.
- Ability to teach and demonstrate CNA skills safely and accurately.
- Ability to supervise students during laboratory and clinical activities.
- Strong verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to complete detailed student-progress, competency, and compliance documentation.
- Ability to work effectively with adult learners from diverse educational and professional backgrounds.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and protect confidential student and resident information.
- Comfortable using Zoom, email, online learning systems, electronic documentation, and basic classroom technology.
- Must be dependable, punctual, patient, professional, and committed to student success.
- Must be available to teach in person and provide some hybrid or virtual instruction.
- Must be able to travel to PHMI’s Decatur location and assigned clinical sites.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of nursing experience.
- At least one year of experience in a long-term care, skilled nursing, assisted living, rehabilitation, or geriatric-care setting.
- Previous CNA instruction, nursing education, precepting, staff development, or clinical-supervision experience.
- Experience preparing students for the Georgia Nurse Aide competency examination.
- Familiarity with Georgia Nurse Aide Training Program requirements.
- Experience completing student skills checklists, progress evaluations, clinical records, and competency documentation.
- Experience teaching through Zoom or a learning-management system.
- Strong classroom-management and student-remediation skills.
- Experience working with accelerated four-week healthcare-training programs.
Program Schedule
PHMI’s CNA program is completed over four weeks and may include:
- In-person classroom instruction
- Online or hybrid coursework
- In-person laboratory and skills practice
- Skills checkoffs and remediation
- Clinical training at an approved healthcare facility
- Written and skills examination preparation
This is a part-time position with hours based on course schedules and enrollment. Candidates may be needed for:
- Day classes
- Evening classes
- Laboratory sessions
- Clinical instruction
- Hybrid or virtual sessions
- Open skills-laboratory sessions
- Student remediation
- State-examination review sessions
- Occasional weekend instruction
