FosterHope Sacramento is looking for a jack of all trades. Someone who could build a fence or deck and also maintain garden, lawn and pool. FosterHope Sacramento is a California non-profit that supports and cares for children, youth, and families in the greater Sacramento area. The Facilities Maintenance & Site Operations Manager is responsible for hands on maintainence, repaire, improvements, and supporting FosterHope Sacramento’s physical properties, including residential sites, administrative offices, program spaces, and developing properties. This position provides hands-on maintenance, skilled repair, construction, site upkeep, vendor coordination, and property readiness support to ensure all FosterHope locations are safe, functional, clean, compliant, and prepared to support youth, families, staff, and program operations.
We are seeking a highly talented skilled, hands-on individual who can complete maintenance, repairs, installations, and property improvement projects independently.
FosterHope strongly prefers a candidate with contractor-level experience, construction background, or skilled trades experience who can safely support more advanced repairs, structural buildouts, and property improvement projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
General Facilities Maintenance
· Maintain buildings, grounds, parking areas, walkways, roofs, storage areas, and outdoor spaces in clean, safe, and organized conditions.
· Complete routine and as-needed maintenance tasks, including repairs, patching, painting, replacing fixtures, assembling furniture, moving items, hanging shelves, installing equipment, and addressing general wear and tear.
· Inspect buildings regularly for safety concerns, repair needs, water intrusion, roof concerns, plumbing issues, electrical concerns, damaged fixtures, broken locks, trip hazards, and general facility risks.
· Respond to urgent facility needs in a timely and professional manner.
· Maintain tools, supplies, equipment, keys, locks, and access-related items.
· Support program readiness by ensuring facilities are clean, operational, safe, and prepared for youth, staff, meetings, trainings, licensing visits, and site tours.
· Support site buildouts, program space setup, furniture assembly, room conversions, privacy modifications, safety modifications, and property readiness projects.
· Assist with structural-related repairs, assessments, and build-out planning when within qualifications, license, experience, and approved scope of
· Maintain agencies 5 facilities in the general Sacramento area. including mowing, trimming, debris removal, weed control, and general outdoor upkeep.
· Assist with identifying property needs, safety concerns, building improvements, site flow, storage needs, fencing needs, access points, lighting, and other infrastructure considerations.
· Support pool maintenance and pool-related installation needs, including coordinating or completing pool setup, cleaning, chemical maintenance, storage safety, equipment checks, and vendor support when needed.
Vendor and Service Coordination
· Coordinate facility-related services
· Manage keys, locks, access codes, building entry systems, and site access in coordination with leadership.
· Ensure vendors understand site expectations, program sensitivity, confidentiality, youth safety, and appropriate boundaries when working near FosterHope programs.
· Obtain bids, coordinate site access, oversee vendor work when assigned, and ensure work is completed appropriately and within approved scope.
· Track vendor work, service dates, repairs, follow-up needs, and pending facility issues.
· Follow all agency policies related to confidentiality, youth safety, boundaries, mandated reporting, and professional conduct.
Required Qualifications
Must be able to pass a background and medical clearance.
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Experience in facilities maintenance, property management, construction, building maintenance, skilled trades, or a related field.
· Ability to complete general maintenance, repairs, installations, and site upkeep independently.
· Ability to safely use tools, equipment, ladders, lawn equipment, power tools, and maintenance supplies.
· Ability to pass all required background checks, including criminal background clearance, child abuse index clearance, and any other agency, licensing, or funding-required screenings.
· Valid California driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation.
· Ability to lift, move, push, pull, and carry items as needed.
· Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
· Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and follow-through skills.
· Ability to work around youth-serving environments with professionalism, discretion, and appropriate boundaries.
· Ability to identify safety risks, facility concerns, and repair needs and communicate them clearly to leadership.
· Preferred Qualifications
· Current California general contractor license preferred.
· Contractor-level construction experience is strongly preferred.
· Experience completing structural repairs, buildouts, fencing, dry rot repair, flooring, tile, carpentry, painting, exterior repairs, and general property improvement projects preferred.
· Experience coordinating permits, inspections, licensed vendors, subcontractors, and property improvement timelines preferred.
· Experience in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, roofing, landscaping, pool maintenance, remodeling, or related skilled trades preferred.
· Experience working in nonprofit, residential, foster care, youth services, licensed care, or community-based settings preferred.
· Knowledge of basic property safety, maintenance planning, construction sequencing, and compliance readiness preferred.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, lift, carry, kneel, reach, and complete physical tasks. The employee must be able to lift and move maintenance supplies, furniture, tools, equipment, and other items as needed. The role includes outdoor work, roof and ladder-related tasks when safe and appropriate, mowing, property cleanup, painting, repairs, and hands-on maintenance duties.
Work Environment
This position works across multiple FosterHope Sacramento properties, including active youth-serving programs, administrative offices, residential sites, outdoor properties, and properties under development. The position may require flexibility in schedule based on urgent facility needs, vendor access, inspections, repairs, property readiness timelines, or site emergencies.
The employee may work around youth, families, staff, contractors, vendors, licensing representatives, community partners, and visitors. Professional boundaries, confidentiality, safety awareness, and respectful communication are always required.
Pay: $33.00 - $36.00 per hour
