SMP Automotive Systems Alabama is seeking skilled Multi-Craft Maintenance Technicians to join our Maintenance Team.
As a Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving a wide variety of production equipment to support safe, efficient, and reliable manufacturing operations.

Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automated production equipment.

Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on manufacturing equipment and facility systems.

Diagnose PLC-controlled equipment and assist with programming modifications when needed.

Install, maintain, and repair motors, conveyors, robots, pumps, gearboxes, compressors, and other industrial equipment.

Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and mechanical drawings.

Perform welding, fabrication, machining, and equipment modifications as required.

Support production by responding quickly to equipment breakdowns and minimizing downtime.

Assist with equipment installations, relocations, and continuous improvement projects.

Ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with company policies and OSHA regulations.

Maintain accurate maintenance records using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

Work closely with Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to improve equipment reliability and performance.

Participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions for recurring equipment failures.

Maintain a clean and organized work area using 5S principles.

High school diploma or GED required.
-
Technical degree or industrial maintenance certification preferred.
-
3+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

Strong electrical troubleshooting experience, including 24VDC, 120VAC, 480VAC, motors, drives, sensors, relays, and control circuits.

Experience troubleshooting hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Knowledge of PLC systems (Allen-Bradley preferred).

Experience with industrial robotics is a plus.

Welding and fabrication experience preferred.

Ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings.

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and off-shifts as needed.

Frequently stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, and reach throughout the shift.

Lift up to 50 pounds regularly.

Work around moving machinery, electrical equipment, and industrial manufacturing processes.

Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and lifting devices.

Must be able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
