Position Summary
CardsHQ is seeking an Executive Vice President of Merchandising to lead the company's end-to-end merchandising strategy across all product categories, channels, and customer touchpoints. This executive will be responsible for maximizing revenue growth, gross margin performance, inventory productivity, product assortment strategy, vendor partnerships, pricing strategy, and category expansion while helping scale the business from its current growth stage into a national, multi-channel collectibles leader.
As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the EVP of Merchandising will provide strategic direction across Buying, Inventory Planning & Allocation, Product Development, Repack Products, Merchandise Operations, and future merchandising functions. This leader will ensure the organization is positioned to capitalize on market opportunities while balancing growth, profitability, customer demand, and inventory efficiency.
The ideal candidate combines deep merchandising expertise, strong commercial acumen, analytical decision-making, leadership capability, and a passion for building scalable organizations in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide executive leadership for the company's merchandising organization, including buying, inventory planning, allocation, product development, merchandise operations, and vendor management.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive merchandising strategy that supports revenue growth, profitability, customer acquisition, and long-term business objectives.
- Lead the annual merchandising business plan, including category strategies, inventory investments, financial targets, and growth initiatives.
- Partner closely with executive leadership to identify emerging opportunities, evaluate market trends, and develop strategies that enhance competitive advantage.
- Oversee buying strategies across sports cards and trading card games (singles and sealed product),.
- Establish inventory productivity goals and ensure appropriate planning, forecasting, allocation, and replenishment processes are in place.
- Drive assortment optimization across retail, ecommerce, live selling/breaking, marketplace, and wholesale channels.
- Develop strategic relationships with manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, dealers, collectors, and industry partners.
- Drive merchandising innovation through exclusive products, proprietary offerings, category expansion, and differentiated customer experiences.
- Operate as a company leader, partnering across Media, Technology, Retail, Ecommerce, Finance, Operations, and Product to maximize overall company growth—not simply merchandising performance.
- Partner with Media & Marketing to leverage audience insights, content, community engagement, and live programming to influence merchandising decisions, product launches, and demand generation.
- Create insight-driven reporting that provides visibility into sales performance, inventory health, margins, product lifecycle performance, and category trends.
- Build scalable merchandising processes, systems, and organizational structures to support future expansion.
- Lead, develop, and mentor merchandising leaders and high-potential talent across the organization.
- Serve as a key contributor to executive planning and strategic initiatives.
Organizational Scope
The EVP of Merchandising will oversee and develop functions that may include:
- VP of Buying - Singles (in store, at shows, online)
- VP of Inventory Planning & Allocation
- Director of Buying Sealed Product- TCG and Sports
- Repack Product Manager
- Future Merchandising Leaders and Category Managers
- Dotted line oversight for in-store buying teams
Qualifications
- 15+ years of progressive merchandising, buying, planning, inventory, or commercial leadership experience.
- Experience leading merchandising organizations with accountability for revenue, margin, and inventory performance.
- Demonstrated success developing and executing merchandising strategies that drive profitable growth.
- Strong understanding of assortment planning, inventory management, forecasting, pricing, allocation, and vendor management.
- Experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to interpret business performance and make data-driven decisions.
- Proven ability to influence executive stakeholders and drive cross-functional alignment.
- Experience building scalable processes and organizations in high-growth environments.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and executive presentation skills.
