Overview
The Cable Technician install, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs low-voltage cable infrastructures for commercial structures (indoors) and campus-wide (outdoor) applications. Cable Technicians are responsible for the implementation of a wide range of coax, copper, and fiber-optic cable applications to include data, voice, television, wireless access points, routers, and other cabled devices. Duties include physical labor to include pulling cable by hand, digging and setting ground cables, climbing ladders and ski lift towers, operating a forklift, building out MDF/IDF equipment, terminating, testing, and labeling all cables.
Essential functions--
- Installing, maintaining, and repairing coax, copper, and fiber-optic cable infrastructures.
- Testing newly installed or relocated cables according to company specifications
- Identifying and removing redundant/ obsolete cable.
- Troubleshooting issues with cable network.
- Installing cable support devices such as j-hooks, cable racks, and innerduct.
- Ensuring all cables are neatly tied and bundled according to safety requirements and customer requests.
- Other duties as assigned.
Competencies--
- Basic electrical aptitude.
- Ability to read blueprints (preferred but not required).
- Fine motor and large motor skills.
- Ability to identify independent colors and learn color codes.
- Ability to work at heights and in cramped spaces.
- Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and fix problems that may arise.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience--
- At least 2 years previous experience working in a similar role is preferrable.
- Familiarity with industry tools and equipment.
Expected Hours of Work--
- This role is considered full-time working approximately 40 hours per week and is not exempt from overtime. Pay: $22.00 - $40.00 per hour
