American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Open Heart/Thoracic Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring post-heart surgery experience and Epic proficiency.

Open Heart/Thoracic PCU at a 703-bed acute care Magnet-designated Level I Trauma Center and academic teaching hospital affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine

Serves as the stepdown/PCU unit for the Open Heart/Thoracic ICU, with most patients specific to this population
-
Trauma resident and mid-level provider in-house
-
Patient ratio is 1:4–5, with a goal of 4:1 but frequently staffed at 5:1
-
Remote telemetry with monitors on unit; tele sitting implemented
-
Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
-
Weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block

One holiday required per 13-week contract

Floating required within skillset
-
Epic EMR experience required
-
Active VA state RN license or Compact RN license; pending license accepted only if candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state

Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS

Post-open heart surgery nursing experience required
-
Experience at a 250+ bed hospital preferred
-
Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and activation of Rapid Response/Code teams
-
Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
-
Experience administering and managing cardiac drips (Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose Dopamine/Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix — no titration required)

Respiratory support skills including nasal cannula, oxygen delivery, and non-invasive airway management

Two professional references required for consideration

Valid driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration

This facility is certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center and features advanced specialty care including a dedicated children's hospital
