West Side Salvage, now operating as Apex Response, is searching for an Assistant Controller to join its team in Atkins, IA.
As the Assistant Controller, you will oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the business while leading the on-site accounting team. You’ll partner closely with the CFO and senior leadership team to streamline processes, support job costing, and establish repeatable systems that enable accurate reporting and strategic decision-making. With experienced financial leadership in place, you’ll have the guidance and structure needed to grow into expanded responsibilities over time.

Job Duties:
- Lead and develop a small accounting team, fostering collaboration, accountability, and process improvement
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including payroll, accounts payable and receivable, and reconciliations
- Manage full-cycle accounts payable including invoice processing, purchase order matching, vendor payments, communication, and 1099 reporting
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and prepare journal entries to support accurate monthly close
- Prepare draft financial statements and job cost reports, tracking labor, materials, subcontractors, and overhead by project
Job Requirements:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field, preferred
- 3–5+ years accounting leadership experience, preferably construction
- Proven ability to lead a team and manage accounting operations
- Proficiency with accounting software, QuickBooks Online a plus
- Strong Excel skills
