The Ahfachkee School is part of the Seminole Tribe of Florida has about 200 students between all the K-12 grade levels so we offer small class sizes, traditional culture preservation, and plenty of resources! We follow Florida standards for the curriculum however we fall under the Bureau of Indian Education so we're not part of the county. Note the school is located on the Big Cypress Reservation at 31055 Josie Billie Highway, Clewiston, FL 33440. This is not in the main city of Clewiston, rather 45 minute drive south. It is about a 45 minute drive east of Immokalee. Coming from Weston it would be about a 55 minute drive to the west on I-75. We do provide a fuel stipend if you live more than 40 miles away.
Position Summary
The incumbent in this position is responsible for delivering specified course content as established by the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Educational guidelines. This position teaches children and young students with disabilities independent life skills, basic literacy, communication, and math using or modifying the general education curriculum to meet the child’s/youth’s individual needs. Early identification of a child with special needs is an important part of the Vary Exceptional Teacher’s job, since early intervention is essential in educating children with disabilities. This position is classified as a Professional-52; which requires a 42 week work period (approximately 10 months) paid across a 52 week (12 month) pay cycle.
Qualifications / Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Education is required. Master’s Degree is preferred. Minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching exceptional students is required. Possession of a valid Teacher Certification is required. Special Education Teacher Training from the National Board Certification highly preferred. Demonstrate ability to support and guide students with disabilities. Demonstrate excellent organizational, interpersonal and time-management skills. Demonstrate excellent written and verbal skills. Demonstrate proficiency utilizing Microsoft software packages. Incumbent must possess a valid Florida driver’s license. Ability to travel to all reservations and work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
