Location: Toppenish
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Fisheries Student Intern to join our team. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in fisheries management, conservation practices, and aquatic research. The intern will work closely with experienced professionals in the field to contribute to ongoing projects aimed at preserving aquatic ecosystems and supporting sustainable fisheries.
Examples of Work Performed:
Assist in conducting field surveys, sampling, and data collection for fish populations and aquatic habitats.
Support data analysis, including evaluating population trends, water quality, and habitat conditions.
Participate in the maintenance and monitoring of equipment used in fisheries research.
Contribute to the preparation of reports, presentations, and outreach materials.
Collaborate with team members on conservation projects and public education initiatives.
Ensure compliance with safety protocols and environmental guidelines during fieldwork.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Currently enrolled in a degree program.
Strong interest in fisheries science, conservation, and ecological research.
Ability to work in outdoor environments, sometimes in challenging weather conditions.
Proficiency in data management and analysis tools is an advantage.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in a team.
Basic understanding of ecological principles and freshwater/marine ecosystems.
Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately collect and record data.
Familiarity with basic computer software (e.g., MS Office, excel, PowerPoint) for data entry and reporting.
Minimum Requirements:
Enrolled in college.
Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.
Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.
Preferred Requirements:
Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
