Job Description
The Cable Harness Assembler performs cable harness assembly and soldering operations, including wire preparation, crimping, and final assembly, in accordance with engineering documentation and IPC quality standards. This role requires the ability to accurately interpret schematics and technical documentation while maintaining compliance with established manufacturing procedures and quality requirements.
Education & Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required; technical training preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in soldering and mechanical assembly of circuit cards within military, aerospace, or electronics manufacturing environments
- Proficiency with hand soldering, wave soldering, and reflow soldering equipment
- Familiarity with torque specifications and calibration procedures
- Basic understanding of IPC standards
- Strong attention to detail, excellent hand-eye coordination, and the ability to read engineering drawings
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and through-hole components
- Knowledge of printed circuit board (PCB) materials and proper handling procedures
- Ability to use precision measuring tools, including micrometers, calipers, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM)
- Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC) and data entry within MES and ERP systems
- Team-oriented mindset with strong communication skills
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform manual hand soldering, wave soldering, and reflow soldering processes on circuit boards.
- Apply solder paste, flux, and alloys according to engineering drawings and IPC standards.
- Monitor soldering equipment, including temperature settings and conveyor speeds, and make real-time adjustments as needed.
- Install components using hand tools, torque wrenches, and pneumatic fixtures.
- Align and secure components to maintain dimensional tolerances.
- Conduct visual inspections and Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) of solder joints and mechanical assemblies.
- Perform functional testing, including continuity and power-up testing, and accurately record results.
- Document non-conformances and initiate corrective actions when required.
- Complete work orders, lot tracking sheets, and time studies.
- Log equipment parameters, material lot numbers, and test results within MES systems.
- Participate in Kaizen events, 5S activities, and root-cause analysis initiatives.
- Maintain compliance with EHS guidelines, IPC standards, and internal quality requirements.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Ability to stand for 8 or more hours per shift.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to perform repetitive fine-motor tasks.
- Exposure to solder fumes, flux vapors, and occasional loud equipment; ventilation systems and hearing protection are provided.
