Structural Steel Fabrication Shop Foreman
Location: Cocoa Beach, FL
Shift: 1st and 2nd Shift
Duration: Direct Hire
Pay Rate: $40.00/Hour (Depending on Experience)
Position Summary
The Shop Foreman is responsible for overseeing all day-to-day operations within a structural steel fabrication facility. This position provides leadership to shop personnel while ensuring projects are fabricated safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with customer specifications, AISC standards, and company quality requirements. The Shop Foreman coordinates manpower, equipment, materials, production schedules, and deliveries while driving continuous improvement throughout the fabrication process.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and supervise welders, fitters, fabricators, machine operators, material handlers, and shop personnel.
- Manage all aspects of shop operations, including manpower allocation, equipment utilization, production workflow, and material movement.
- Develop, maintain, and update fabrication schedules and production schedules to meet customer deadlines.
- Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments, deliveries, and logistics activities.
- Monitor fabrication activities to ensure compliance with shop drawings, project specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.
- Establish, implement, and enforce standard fabrication procedures and best practices.
- Maintain quality control processes to ensure fabricated products meet customer requirements and industry standards.
- Review shop performance, identify production bottlenecks, and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and productivity.
- Coordinate with project managers, detailers, estimators, purchasing personnel, and field operations teams to ensure project success.
- Manage shop inventory levels, consumables, tools, and equipment to support uninterrupted production.
- Ensure preventative maintenance programs are followed for fabrication equipment, cranes, forklifts, welding machines, and facility assets.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, and customers.
- Conduct production meetings and communicate project status, workload requirements, and schedule updates.
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
- Assist with workforce planning, staffing needs, employee development, and performance management.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 7+ years of structural steel fabrication experience.
- 5+ years of supervisory, lead, or management experience in a fabrication shop environment.
- Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication, fitting, welding, layout, and material handling operations.
- Ability to read and interpret structural steel drawings, fabrication drawings, shop drawings, and specifications.
- Working knowledge of welding processes including FCAW, GMAW, SMAW, and GTAW.
- Strong understanding of AISC fabrication standards and structural steel industry practices.
- Experience managing production schedules, manpower planning, and workflow coordination.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- AISC-certified fabrication shop experience.
- Knowledge of ERP/MRP manufacturing software systems.
- Experience with overhead cranes, forklifts, rigging, and material handling operations.
- AWS welding knowledge and structural steel quality control experience.
- Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience.
