ABOUT THE ROLE
Quality Painting & Metal Finishing is looking for a detail-oriented and dependable Quality Control & Shipping Specialist to join our team. This key role serves as the final checkpoint in our high-volume production process - ensuring that every finished product meets our high quality standards before it reaches the customer. The ideal candidate has a sharp eye for detail, takes pride in delivering defect-free work and can efficiently prepare and package finished products for outbound shipment. QUALITY CONTROL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform thorough visual and dimensional inspections of finished powder-coated and painted parts to verify conformance to customer specifications and internal quality standards.
- Check for surface defects including runs, sags, fish eyes, pinholes, thin coverage, color inconsistencies and contamination.
- Measure coating thickness using dry film thickness gauges and document results.
- Conduct adhesion and cure tests as required per job specifications.
- Compare finished parts against approved samples, color standards and customer drawings or work orders.
- Identify or segregate non-conforming parts; tag and document rejects and communicate issues to production staff.
- Assist in identifying root causes of recurring quality issues and communicate findings to the production team.
- Maintain organized quality records and inspection logs for traceability and customer reference.
- Ensure all parts are clean, free of residue and meet appearance standards prior to packing.
QUALITY CONTROL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Carefully pack finished part using appropriate materials (foam, bubble wrap, kraft paper, custom packaging) to prevent damage in transit.
- Verify part counts, lot numbers and job details against work orders and packing lists before sealing shipments.
- Label packages accurately with shipping labels, part numbers, customer PO numbers and any special handling instructions.
- Assist with recieving incoming materials and parts when needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Prior experience in quality control, inspection or finishing in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience in a shipping, packing or warehouse role is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail - ability to identify subtle surface defects and inconsistencies.
- Basic computer skills; ability to use ERP/job tracking systems and print shipping labels.
- Familiarity with measurement tools (calipers, film thickness gauges) is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, customer drawings and packing lists.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple orders simultaneously.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, and lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
