Position Summary
The General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, operational performance, guest satisfaction, and financial success of the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott. This role ensures strict adherence to Marriott brand standards, drives revenue growth, and leads a disciplined, service-focused team.
The General Manager must take a hands-on leadership approach, maintain a strong presence on property, and ensure the hotel is consistently operating at the highest level.
Key ResponsibilitiesDaily Responsibilities
- Oversee all hotel operations including Front Desk, Housekeeping, Maintenance, and Breakfast
- Ensure full compliance with Marriott brand standards and operating procedures
- Operate and manage the hotel using FOSSE PMS
- Ensure all guest issues are logged and resolved through GXP (Guest Experience Platform)
- Conduct daily property walkthroughs (guest rooms, public areas, exterior, back of house)
- Ensure rooms meet Marriott cleanliness and presentation standards
- Review arrivals, departures, VIPs, and group activity
- Monitor daily revenue performance (Occupancy, ADR, RevPAR)
- Maintain strong presence in the lobby and engage with guests (“table touches”)
- Ensure proper staffing levels and operational coverage
- Enforce uniform, grooming, and professionalism standards
- Ensure compliance with cash handling and safety procedures
- Resolve all guest complaints same day using Marriott service recovery standards
Weekly Responsibilities
- Submit required weekly report every Friday to ownership
- Review STR reports and benchmark performance against the comp set
- Participate in revenue management calls and implement pricing strategies
- Review labor costs and manage payroll efficiency
- Ensure schedules are completed, approved, and posted on time
- Conduct leadership and team meetings
- Review guest satisfaction metrics and GXP case trends
- Audit guest adjustments, refunds, and house accounts
- Ensure all staff are properly trained and cross-trained
- Verify all GXP cases are active and managed throughout each shift
- Ensure ongoing QA readiness
Monthly Responsibilities
- Review financial statements (P&L) and ensure alignment with budget
- Analyze revenue, expenses, and profitability
- Review Marriott reporting systems and compliance requirements
- Ensure all invoices, accounts payable, and financial reporting are completed
- Review and manage direct billing, CLC, and accounts receivable
- Conduct full property inspection for Marriott QA readiness
- Evaluate staffing levels and hiring needs
- Review sales production and local business outreach
- Ensure all brand-required training and certifications are completed
- Track and improve guest satisfaction scores
Quarterly Responsibilities
- Conduct performance reviews for leadership team members
- Evaluate hotel performance vs. budget and prior year
- Adjust business strategy based on market trends and STR data
- Conduct a full operational audit to ensure Marriott compliance
- Identify and plan for capital improvements and maintenance needs
- Work with ownership on financial forecasting and long-term planning
- Evaluate sales strategy and revenue opportunities
Marriott Brand Expectations
- Ensure full compliance with Marriott brand standards at all times
- Maintain active use of FOSSE, GXP, MGS, and Power of M
- Ensure all team members follow Marriott service culture and standards
- Maintain QA readiness daily—hotel must be inspection-ready at all times
- Ensure all required Marriott training and certifications are completed on time

- Weekly reporting is mandatory every Friday

- Failure to meet reporting deadlines or expectations may result in disciplinary action
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Hotel General Manager or Assistant General Manager (Marriott preferred)
- Strong knowledge of FOSSE, GXP, and Marriott systems
- Proven leadership and team management skills
- Strong financial and revenue management understanding
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays
