As our company continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Lead Fire Alarm Technician who can take ownership of complex fire alarm service work, troubleshoot systems confidently, and help lead and develop our field team.
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Lead Fire Alarm Technician with strong hands-on knowledge of commercial fire alarm systems.
This position is ideal for a technician who is confident troubleshooting, programming, repairing, modifying, testing, and inspecting both conventional and addressable fire alarm systems.
The Lead Fire Alarm Technician will be expected to work independently on complex service calls, assist with larger projects, coordinate with customers and inspectors, and provide technical guidance and training to junior technicians.
The ideal candidate is someone who can identify a problem, determine the appropriate solution, clearly document what is needed, and help ensure the work is completed correctly and in accordance with applicable codes and manufacturer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform testing, inspection, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of commercial fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA 72, manufacturer requirements, and local AHJ regulations.
- Troubleshoot and repair conventional and addressable fire alarm systems.
- Diagnose complex system issues, including NAC/SLC faults, ground faults, communication failures, wiring issues, device failures, power supply problems, and panel troubles.
- Program, service, and troubleshoot fire alarm control panels from multiple manufacturers.
- Perform panel replacements, system modifications, device replacements, upgrades, and deficiency repairs.
- Install and replace notification appliances, smoke detectors, heat detectors, duct detectors, monitor/control modules, pull stations, power supplies, and other fire alarm components.
- Read and interpret fire alarm plans, wiring diagrams, riser diagrams, device layouts, and manufacturer documentation.
- Identify deficiencies and determine appropriate repair recommendations and material requirements.
- Maintain accurate service notes, inspection documentation, photos, deficiency reports, and material lists.
- Coordinate with dispatch, office staff, property managers, building engineers, inspectors, vendors, and other trades to complete work efficiently.
- Communicate technical findings and recommended repairs professionally and clearly to customers and the Elite Fire Pros team.
- Assist with AHJ inspections, acceptance testing, and system testing when required.
- Lead field crews on larger service calls, repair projects, and system modifications.
- Provide technical support, guidance, and hands-on training to junior fire alarm technicians.
- Help ensure field work is completed safely, professionally, and according to company quality standards.
- Maintain company tools, test equipment, materials, and assigned company vehicle.
- Represent Elite Fire Pros professionally while working at customer properties.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3+ years of hands-on commercial fire alarm experience; additional experience is strongly preferred for this lead position.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with commercial fire alarm systems.
- Experience working with both conventional and addressable systems.
- Experience programming and servicing multiple fire alarm panel manufacturers.
- Familiarity with systems such as Notifier, Fire-Lite, Siemens, Edwards/EST, and Silent Knight.
- Strong working knowledge of NFPA 72, fire alarm testing requirements, and applicable local codes.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, wiring diagrams, risers, and device layouts.
- Experience performing panel replacements, system modifications, and deficiency repairs.
- Ability to independently diagnose system problems and determine appropriate repair solutions.
- Experience coordinating with property managers, inspectors, building engineers, and other trades.
- Ability and willingness to lead crews and help train less-experienced technicians.
- Strong written documentation skills, including detailed service notes, photos, deficiencies, and material lists.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple field responsibilities.
- Valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Current California Fire/Life Safety certification, or ability to obtain required certification.
- Dependable, professional, organized, and safety-focused.
