About EngPlans
EngPlans is a growing remote engineering firm specializing in structural, civil, drafting, and technical design services for pool contractors, builders, and residential/commercial clients.
At EngPlans, structural engineering moves fast and stays interesting. Instead of working on one small piece of a long-term project, you will help design custom pools, outdoor living features, and unique structural conditions that clients are excited to build and see come to life.
We are building a fast-moving, highly organized engineering company with strong standards, automation, internal systems, and a team-focused culture. We are looking for a structural engineer who wants more than just a production role. This is an opportunity to help build and lead a niche technical department inside a growing company.
Position Summary
We are hiring a Structural Engineer / EIT - PE Track to join our Structural and Technical department.
In this role, you will work directly with the Principal Engineer to learn the workflow, standards, and nuances of a highly specialized engineering niche. You will be part of a fast-moving team environment that takes a client's vision and turns it into a buildable deliverable.
The right person for this role should be excited to grow with our team, take on unique design challenges, and help shape the Structural and Technical department as EngPlans continues to expand. This is not the right fit for someone who wants to do the same repetitive task every day. This is for the person who can look at a wild rendering and say, "That's amazing - let's figure out how to build it."
This role will begin with structural drafting support, detail development, standards updates, plan production support, and coordination with the Principal Engineer and internal team. The position is intended to grow into department leadership as the candidate learns EngPlans' systems, develops technical confidence, and takes ownership of the Structural and Technical workflow.
What You'll Do
Support structural design and drafting for pool structures, specialty concrete, accessory structures, building alterations, foundations, retaining/freestanding walls, and related custom designs
Prepare and update structural details, standard notes, design templates, and technical standards
Assist with drafting and plan production for pool-specific structural systems
Review client-provided drawings and identify structural scope, missing information, and design needs
Coordinate Structural and Technical department tasks with Operations, Drafting, Civil, and the Principal Engineer
Help maintain and improve EngPlans' structural standards and design library
Develop repeatable workflows for common structural project types
Support QA/QC and technical review of structural packages
Identify unique or higher-level design issues and bring them to the Principal Engineer for review
Use Principal Engineer feedback to finalize drawings, details, and technical packages
Help build a scalable department that can support future junior engineers and designers
Types of Projects You May Work On
Custom shotcrete pool structures
Balcony and rooftop pools/spas
Pools with deep pile foundations
Raised pools, retaining conditions, and freestanding walls
Outdoor living and accessory structures
Aluminum-related structural reviews
Building opening alterations
Specialty concrete details
Gas and technical coordination items
Structural details for high-volume pool construction
Custom design conditions that do not fit standard templates
What We're Looking For
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field
2+ years of structural engineering experience preferred
EIT certification preferred, or active pursuit of PE licensure
Strong understanding of structural load paths and practical structural design
Experience or interest in concrete, masonry, steel, aluminum, foundations, wood, or specialty structures
Comfortable working with calculations, details, drawings, and design standards
Strong AutoCAD or drafting/detailing experience preferred
Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently in a remote environment
Strong written communication and ability to coordinate with a remote team
Interested in learning niche pool-specific structural design
Excited by standards, templates, automation, workflow improvement, and building repeatable systems
Motivated to grow into department leadership rather than stay in a narrow production-only role
*Must be a US Citizen
Bonus Points
Experience with pools, shotcrete, specialty concrete, foundations, retaining walls, masonry, aluminum structures, accessory structures, rooftop structures, balconies, or residential/light commercial design
Florida Building Code experience
Experience preparing structural details or standard plan notes
Experience creating calculation templates, design spreadsheets, or technical standards
Experience coordinating with drafting teams
Interest in automation, technical systems, and improving engineering workflows
Close to qualifying for PE licensure
Growth Path
This is a fast-track growth role for someone who wants to help build and run a niche Structural and Technical department.
The selected candidate will be trained in EngPlans' pool-specific structural systems, internal standards, project workflows, and department processes. As the role develops, this person will help coordinate department tasks, improve standards, support technical drafting, and grow into the lead role for the Structural and Technical department.
Compensation will be reviewed as Professional Engineer licensure, responsible charge, and technical ownership increase.
